Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

This is a fairly large-sized quality picture book for 5-year-olds. The story is a familiar one but the setting is Texan. It's time for bed and Sheriff Pa tells Cowboy Baby to round up Texas Ted, Denver Dog and Hank the Horse and bring them safely home. Each page with its bold black writing and brightly coloured picture leads to a surprise on the next one as the little boy goes out into the desert to find his toys one by one. When he's found them it seems like a good idea to hide and this time it's Sheriff Pa's turn to find Cowboy Baby. As a reward for making it easy to find him Sheriff Pa lassos a twinkling star and makes his son his deputy. A bright, happy bedtime story featuring father and son. -- Tamsin Palmer --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review

cowboy baby 3 Oct 2007
Format:Hardcover
this story, set in the wild west, was dearly loved by both my children. my son now nearly 5 still repeats a line from it whenever he is hiding - 'bet you cant find us, no siree!'. the story is a perfect evocation of childrens delight in hiding, and of their affection for the toys they take to bed with them. the rhythm of the text makes the book very enjoyable for adults to read, and never tire of, which in our case was just as well.

My husband and I love reading this book to our young baby boy (6 months). Our son looks attentively at the beautiful, witty pictures and loves the repetitive, but clever, nature of the words. We certainly will be re-reading this book together for many months/years to come.

"Time for bed, Cowboy Baby", says Sheriff Pa. But, not unlike certain children I could name, Cowboy Baby won't go to bed until he's rounded up his entourage - in this case Denver Dog, Texas Ted and Hank The Horse.

The repeating words and phrases, which can grate in some children's books, seem to have a natural in-built rhythm, and the illustrations are nicely done.

And there's the added bonus of teaching your child the fantastic phrase, "That's dandy!". I enjoy reading this one as much as my nearly-3-year-old.
