Product Description

Product Description

A vivid exploration of an element of music culture that has withered with the advent of MP3s and digital downloading. Records possess a visual as well as an aural capacity for storytelling. The record cover - eye candy for the music lover - speaks a language rooted in the environment and era of the music itself. And, more intimately, a record can create a profound sense of analogy with its owner. This is the second book by esteemed music journal Wax Poetics.

After having read the product description at amazon.co.uk I ordered Cover Story by Wax Poetics - thinking that I would receive a book with both texts and images. I only got images.

The book in itself is all about album cover art - but without any descriptions, texts or any real thoughts or perspectives (excluding the 3 pages of introductive text in the beginning) on what to use this illustrative work for.

Therefore: if you want a coffee table book and don't care nor want informative texts - this book will suite you just fine. The displayed album covers are fun, clever and interesting.
But if you're looking for an (even slightly) informative and not only illustrative book on album cover art - this isn't it.

An eye candy 9 July 2008
By raychile - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Cover Story by WaxPoetics is a really beautiful cover compilation. It doesn't have much textual information, except for the introduction part, instead of that, all the book has a nice compilation of what some may call "black music" (jazz, hip-hop, soul, etc) so this book is for lovers of that particular music line. The scans are wonderful, perfect resolution. It is recommended for people who just want to visually be amazed by this pieces, not for the ones who want a information book.

Fresh 27 Mar 2008
By Elsa M. Cuellar - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
The book is amazing, it chronicles a good deal of exquisite vinyl pieces showing the progression, variation, and the eclectically appealing array of music in existence. It's only a taste, and a delicious one at that. You're sure to enjoy.
