I booked a canal cruiser from a base on the Trent and Mersea Canal near Wilington. Passage planning information sent by the hirers was very limited. I found the Geo projects canal maps on Amazon and they proved to be all that I needed in both planning my cruise and navigating my hired narrow boat along the Trent and Mersea Canal and the Coventry and Birmingham canals.
The maps have all the information needed including places to get water; mooring places; pubs and other facilities and winding holes where the narrow boats can be turned round. There are also lots of small descriptions of places of interest close to the canals and shorts accounts of the history of various parts of the canals. All bridges and locks are named so it is possible to acurately fix your position.
The maps are of a good scale and have dots in the canals spaced at one mile intervals. Surrounding areas are well portrayed showing roads, railways and footpaths. There are also maps of important towns close to the canals. I used the Geo Project Map to find my way by car from the M1 to the canal cruiser hirer's base.
Excellent value for money.
