This was Richard Burton's first American film made in 1952, co-starring Olivia de Haviland and set on the Cornish coast. The story was from the novel by Daphne du Maurier. The main character, Richard Burton, is torn between dark suspicion of the female character, a beautiful Olivia de Haviland, and his uncontrollable passion for her, and indeed we are kept guessing until the very end of this drama. Was she there to take over the estate, or did she return his love? How can we resist that distinctive voice of Burton, especially playing the anguished young Englishman. A must for admirers of the author, and the two stars.
