Review

'Holds an awful fascination' The bookseller 'Carol Anne Davis tackles her subject in a way that avoids the extremes of tacky goriness and dry-as-dust theorising that mars most true crime books' Time Out

Product Description

What drives attractive male cousins to rape and kill ten young women? Why do an altar girl and her boyfriend lure innocent victims into their customised torture van? Couples who kill comprise only twenty per cent of killers, but they often murder serially and are responsible for particularly inhumane deaths. Sadistic friends, psychotic sisters and an increasingly pathological mother-son team are amongst those profiled in this exploration of the world's most deviant duos. There are infamous British cases, such as the Moors Murderers and the Wests, as well as many equally disturbing but less well-known ones. In the third of this series, which focuses on the psychology of murderers, Carol Anne Davis explores the formative influences of these killers and their deadly dynamics. Comprising of thirteen in-depth case studies and exclusive interviews with experts and one of the Wests' surviving victims, "Couples Who Kill" provides an unequalled study of this disturbing subject.

A shocking tale! 16 Mar 2006
Format:Hardcover
In this utterly chilling book, Carol Anne Davis skilfully walks the tightrope between either bombarding the reader with unnecessary detailed trivia or gory sensationalism and instead, faithfully chronicles the depravity that mixed and same-sex couples descend to, from the 19th Century to the present day.
Her research has been meticulously carried out over a period of years and for English readers in particular, the full horror of the crimes carried out by Brady and Hindley and also the almost sub-human Fred West and his wife are recent enough to be in many reader's memories.
Fifty-eight people who were involved in a whole catalogue of murders for monetary gain, sexual gratification or purely for the thrill of it, are recorded in this thoroughly well-written book, which is the stuff that nightmares are made of.
To that section of society who is resolutely opposed to the death penalty, I venture to suggest that after reading this book, they will change their mind; if I were of their persuasion, I would.
Highly recommended - although not for those of nervous disposition!

Another page turner 11 April 2005
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
I'd enjoyed this author's previous books but was worried that this one would go on and on about the moors murderers and the wests. I even checked it out in a bookstore before buying it on amazon. But I needn't have worried as there are lots of new cases here including some British serial killers I hadn't heard of. And she has more information on the American cases than anyone else I've read. The sadistic aspects are shocking but because you're told about the killers childhoods, you at least understand why they do what they do.

very interesting book 10 July 2009
Format:Paperback
I previously read "women who kill" and "children who kill" because I am very much interested in serial killers and those books definitely serve the purpose. You have some big mediatic cases but also some relatively unknown stories which makes it fascinating.you get an insight on the crimes but also on the background of the killers and the aftermath of what they did.
