Is classical music too cheap? Here we have 11 CDs, all recorded in 2004 & 2005 by Michael Borgstede (who, apart from being a skilled harpsichordist is also a journalist based in the Middle East), produced and engineered beautifully by Peter Arts, all in a slimline box for less than £30. Rather than licensed re-issues, therefore, Brilliant Classics offer these fresh recordings for a song.
OK, the booklet isn't very good, but there is loads of information about Francois Couperin and his music on the web, so that's no great loss.
Although you would not want to sit through all 11 CDs in a (very long) session, I have played them interspersed with other music and I have found that you can switch on to the hidden depths of this music readily: This is emphatically not just Baroque background music.
Cracking stuff, just right after a stressful day!
