Book Description

14 Mar 2013
Everyone has a dream of the perfect country house: beautiful, warm and welcoming with a sense of comfort and style that comes naturally. The word 'country' evokes a timeless simplicity, where classic form is married to a soft, decorative feel, where colour and pattern are used informally, and where light and space are at the heart of every room. The re-introduction of colour and pattern to interior design, and the perennial popularity of natural materials make a stylish, country look easy to attain. Chapters include specific country styles such as Shaker, New England and modern Ethnic, along with practical ways to really bring the outside in - from using natural textiles and textures, to incorporating seaside checks and country-style florals. With more than two hundred stunning colour photographs, Country in the City is an inspiration to those wanting to make every day in the city a dream of country living.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh and achievable 18 Mar 2013
By make_do
If you're looking for some country inspiration for your city home, this is the perfect book. All of the ideas are imaginative and easy to replicate, it's so good to see possibilities for city homes that are not completely stark and minimalist. I was inspired to renovate my kitchen based on one of the ones in the book, and I'm really happy with it. Most other interiors books I have are really intimidating, but with this book, and quite a small budget, I felt that a lot of the ideas were accessible to me. I don't think that the looks will date at all, everything strikes a nice balance between classic and contemporary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interiors you could really live in 27 Mar 2013
Country in the City inspired me with interiors ideas that were actually possible and affordable. I've got four children and a dog and really need to LIVE in my town house but I desperately want it to be beautiful too. This book is full of helpful practical design tips that work. I read, "It's too easy to lose the concept in a jungle of clutter", and can see a way forward. There are fantastic ideas on how to bring light and space to your kitchen, the centre of our house. And I loved the down-to-earth comment: "A bath in a bedroom is luxurious only when it works well".
I felt I could trust this book. I put it down and felt rather positive about what I'm going to achieve in my house.
The photographs are beautiful and show real houses which have developed from being lived in. These are stylish houses with cupboards for ironing boards and all those jam jars you have to save for marmalade.
