Counting Down the Days "CDTD" is an obvious choice for a hit single from Natalie.
In fact, I prefer this song and would have chosen it over "Shiver". It's a powerful, thought provoking song about long-distance love, it's got a great melody and the piano and vocals are fantastic. I think as an acoustic song (just guitar and Natalie's vocals) it would be as great, if not better.
In real life Natalie is married to an Australian guy named Daniel Johns who spends most of his time (due to his successful career) as the front man of Aussie band Silverchair and his new side project The Dissociatives in Australia, whereas Natalie's base for her career is in England.
It must be very hard to carry on a relationship/marriage from such a long way away, so this song is heartfelt and at times teary. She's "Counting Down the Days" until she sees him and then one day decides to jack it in and surprise him.
I'm quoting lyrics from the song: "I wanna travel through time, see your surprise, hold you so tight, I'm Counting Down the Days, tonight I just want to be a million miles away from here
- I'm Counting Down the Days!"
I wouldn't be surprised if this song makes Top 5 and this single generates more album sales. "Counting Down the Days" is one of Natalie's best albums because its heartfelt (she's becoming a confident songwriter) and seeing as she's released 3 albums I feel this one is the best so far.
"Left of the Middle" (the first album) was a hit success story, "White Lilies Island" although also personal it was at a cross-roads in her personal life and seems very dark and moody because her and Daniel didn't think they could keep a relationship going from the great distance (him in Australia and her in England). "Counting Down the Days" is uplifting and overall this album has fantastic clear vocals, a great mix of songs and I would highly recommend it.
If you like Natalie's other material this album won't disappoint!
