5.0 out of 5 stars JUST WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR! 11 Nov 2013
By Kei Laliberte - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
For years I've tried to "put something together" that would meet the needs of my large family with kids spread over a large age range. Frustrated with the time I spent, I usually gave up long before December 1st. Never again! With thoughts for parents (and older children if you choose to use it that way) and younger children (interesting for all ages, including adults), Counting the Days, Lighting the Candles is perfect! What's more, every day is pure GOOD NEWS! As I read through the first week I honestly had tears as my heart was relieved of burden and refocused on the love of my Savior for me and my family. And if you're a tradition follower like I am, I love that Elyse and Jessica lay out what color candle to light and when to light it, and also give you the meaning behind each one. If you aren't so concerned with that kind of thing, I love that you truly feel the freedom to use "leftover sparkly birthday candles" as they so graciously offer. Additionally, Jamie Nato did a great job tying a simpl(y brilliant) activity / project to each week. Because I don't have a crafty bone in my body, the words "activity" and "project" usually make me break out in hives, but not these! Even I can pull off a simple scavenger hunt, that ALL of my children will enjoy or build a fort (or set up a tent) in my living room. Jamie even includes two or three questions to ask your children as you complete each activity. Finally, Elyse and Jessica's, easy, humorous writing style combined with their deep love and respect for The Word make this book the perfect Advent devotional. What a gift! Speaking of gifts, Counting the Days would make a great gift, too!

3.0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for Content but 2 Stars for Printing 25 Nov 2013
By N. C. Moore - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My wife and I are thrilled with this book. The content is excellent with daily readings and texts of Scripture. There are also 4 creative activities. The content is geared for families and full of creative ideas on how to help apply the concepts for children. The content is also deep enough to stimulate adults... the perfect mixture for a family devotional.

My complaint is that this book is that its publisher, CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform did a poor job printing and publishing the book. Our copy has a huge crease down the loose spine and when you lay the book flat, the cover sits open about and inch or so. Definitely not a book that will last more than a couple of years. The typeset looks like it was published in Microsoft Word with awkward double-spacing and huge margins. The printing is what I'd expect of a startup's first printing effort.

5 Stars for Content but 2 for Printing

5.0 out of 5 stars A Simple & Sweet Guide To Enchancing The Advent Season 30 Nov 2013
By Jeane Miller - Published on Amazon.com
Simple. Guilt-free. Free. Grace-filled. And did I mention, simple? This delightful work by three utterly down-to-earth authors is completely readable in it's style, practical in it's approach (have small children? I do to! Five of them! And they are are loud and wonderful and rambunctious...and I still feel absolutely certain I could go through this with them) and endearing in the way it wraps the big Truths of this season in bite-sized bits that one will want to continue to chew on as the days of the season progress. I am not a crafty sort, and so I might not engage in all the creative ways to celebrate the advent, but if I should attempt, the ideas are so simple, even I might be able to pull it off. Either way, the content is deep, but simply put and a perfect accompaniment to the Christmas season.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for advent wreath 26 Dec 2013
By mbandy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I didn't like the devotionals for kids as much as I like the Advent Jesse Tree devotional by Dean Lambert Smith and I didn't want to do 2 - too much for little kids. I also got Good News of Great Joy by John Piper which I liked better for adults. I did like the 4 activities to go along with our advent wreath. I may try to incorporate some of those next year.
