Thought hard before getting this for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I could imagine the onstage dramatics of Adam Duritz that had been criticised by other reviewers. Having seen them on TV , I knew he was an acquired taste as a frontman. Also, I was wondering whether it was wise to devote a whole DVD to just one album, when so much superb material came after (after August if you will), that hasn't been released in this format. But I went for it and my doubts were proved unwarranted. They simply have to be one of the tightest, most versatile and thrilling live acts around, I'm just sorry I've never seen them live. The songs, of which many are perennial crowd-pleasers anyway, are expanded and enhanced, not just in length, but by extemporisation and sheer musical imagination. I can see how Duritz's demeanour could be not to all tastes, but it's not mere pretension. He obviously cares passionately about his songs and thinks it important to bring them to new life whenever he performs them, and he has a loveable, teddybear-ish quality about him that I'm sure endears him to the ladies in the audience. Who says you have to look like Brad Pitt? The multi-instrumental talents of David Immergluck shine out as well, as do the keyboard skills of Charlie Gillingham.

This is a concert DVD of the Crows debut album - basically they play the album from beginning to end in the original sequence. The more important point though is the quality of the performance: few artists live songs and bring them to life quite the way Adam Duritz does. I saw them recently in London and all I can say is that this DVD is the as close as you can get without actually being there; brilliant. I can't stop watching / listening to it. If you are not a long standing fan this would be a wonderful introdution.

A great dvd from a group that is not always recognised for the talent they have, the voice of the lead singer is instantly recognised if you have heard any of their other stuff

I have seen the counting crows a numbmer of times.Watched it on my projector..WOW. Their acoustic/live album across the wire took them in another direction. It changed the feel of the songs. The dvd captures these moments. This is a band that knows each other inside out. Hearing Round here semi mixed with Raining in baltimore brought back memories of listening to the bootleg recordings, which ive enjoyed for years. Yes i know its only August and everything after, but they did it justice and this is what they are about...../A live band who rock.....so you wanna be a rock n roll star, well listen now to what i say, just get an electric guitar and take some time and learn how to play. Go buy it now!
