This band are one of the best kept secrets of the London Folk scene at the moment. I'm hoping this is their "breakthrough moment".
The Portraits have a strong live following, having played Glastonbury in 2011, regularly playing gigs in both UK and France
Counterbalance is the follow up to the popular album "The Blushing Of A World In White" of 2010, and again they've visited important themes on this new album. From the gagging of Julian Assange, the hope of peace in the world, difficulties of good music reaching a wider audience, to the panic when they got their Glastonbury slot.
Expect beautiful harmonies and a group of musicians who have clearly been working together for a while, bringing a tight sound, with beautiful piano and strings. They are a great live act, who can very faithfully reproduce the often complex musical arrangements you'll find here.
Please give them a listen, they both delight and surprise with their beautiful music infused with important global messages.
