I was a bit dubious as some of the reviews on here didn't seem genuine, but I gave this a go anyway, as I felt drawn to read it after seeing an extract in a magazine. I'm glad I did. It's a fascinating read that really helped clarify, for me, what is meant my 'coherence'. It's hard to put into words perhaps, but coherence is that state of being completely at peace with life and oneself, in synch and at one. It is a modern term for the enlightened state long purported by Buddhists among others. "Countdown to Coherence" is written in a semi-travel diary style as the author visits various people who are helping bridge the once divergent fields of spirituality and science. One reviewer complained that she doesn't add anything new herself. I think they've missed the point. The author is or was a journalist (a Daily Mail journalist unfortunately, but for the quality of this book I can almost forgive that! ;)) so she takes a journalistic approach to gathering, arranging and presenting information in this topic. I for one am glad, because it's the opinions of the scientists and experts she interviews that is far more interesting and relevant, although she does nicely try them together.
Now, some of the chapters are more interesting than others and some of the discussion doesn't seem to add much to the overall topic (talk of "orbs" and David Hawkins and his "calibrations" put me off). But I found that if I skipped to the next chapter I was sure to find something else of interest. It's an easy read and I love how she's tied things together. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested - my mother had a look at it, began to read it and absolutely loved it. For me, it highlights the growing developments in the field of science with regard to consciousness and understanding human nature and our true and full potential. It is my hope that I can find some way to put the theory into practise and learn to develop greater 'coherence'. I hope this review was coherent enough. And no, it's not a planted review. I kind of wish it was, I could do with the money!! :-P
