Product Description

Review

`As a teacher, I was impressed. The book is clearly written and provides a fine introduction to the issues attendant on counseling survivors of sexual abuse. It is up-to-date and comprehensive without being plodding and avoids the cant that can bedevil the topic.' - PyschCritiques

I found this book to be a valuable tool; truly useful for all those who, like myself work with survivors of sexual abuse. The writing was clear and concise, full of practical advice and supported by casework examples, but with enough theoretical content to promote further interest. One small criticism was the lack of discussion concerning childhood sexual abuse and adult psychosis, however to be fair this was not really within the remit of what is a very practically orientated book

Objective & Insightful 2 Jan 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I found this books to be really excellent. It was not a general,...overview. It covered all known symptoms found in survivors, showing how these theories were based on hard statistics. It was amazing to see how far-reaching the effects are of child-abuse. Although written for professional councellors, it could be read by lay councellors and patients alike. I would really recommend this book to anyone with any interest in the effects of child abuse and how to help them.

As an MSW student I was required to read this book for a class in childhood sexual abuse. I found the information provided to be clear, direct and critical to counselling survivors of sexual abuse.
