5.0 out of 5 stars A classic revised 9 Mar. 2011
By Amazon Customer VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This has been a true classic in the psychotherapy and counselling world since it first appeared, and none of the scholarly and yet practical material has diminished in this 3rd edition. The Geldards really do have the edge over the majority of specialists in working with children and young people. This year I have used this book as the recommended text for a level 3 (A level) course in counselling that I teach, and it has provided reassurance to the students who are quite naturally daunted by the prospect of working with one of the most challenging of client groups, teenagers.
The professionalism of the PROACTIVE approach discussed in the book is well proven in my own practice as a counselling practitioner.
If you are working toward a counselling or psychotherapy diploma or foundation degree, or are on a supervision course where you may have the opportunity to supervise the work of practitioners who will be working with young people, this really is essential reading.
Buy and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must for People Working with Young People 28 Sept. 2010
Format:Paperback
This book is a fantastic resource for anyone working with adolescents. It gives an insightful account of one of the most difficult developmental stages that we go through. It is all to easy to dismiss teenagers as being difficult and self obsessed but this book highlights the reasons why this occurs.By creating awareness of the physical, emotional and cognitive changes that young people have to go through it allows greater understanding and empathy for this age group. I think that this is a must have not just for counsellors but for teaching staff and others who work with adolescents.
