I bought this album on the strength of his other album, "Seven Steps to Mercy", although "I Could Read the Sky" is much more experimental than the earlier release. This is a real mixture of material, ambient electronica and more traditional Irish accoustic instruments. The production is excellent. The mood is generally rather subdued, but it makes excellent late-night, candle-lit listening. The varied styles are well coordinated throughout the album, they sit together well and do not jar at all, the whole package being superbly held together by that incredible voice. Definitely recommended, and will probably appeal to those who enjoy Peter Gabriel and the more mellow Afro Celt Sound System pieces.
