Product Description

Sunday Express, September 1, 2009

The epic title track is a farming saga that replaces cakes in the rain with hard times and rotting wheat. Elsewhere there are more straightforward reflections on lost love and opportunities. ***** Five Star

Q Magazine, August 1, 2009

They sure know how to charm, and much here, especially Mercury's In Retrograde, is as warm and loevely as an open fire

MANY WEBBS 1 Jan 2010
Format:Audio CD
Less than kind reviews of the recent tour of massed Webbs have suggested that this might be a vanity project for the great man. Having missed the tour through a cancelled concert and only now hearing the album, this seems a harsh judgement. It may not compare with Jimmy Webb's finest in work like "Ten Easy Pieces", but then not many albums deliver that sort of emotional punch.

However this album comes from a real sense of history and family, with songs like "If These Walls Could Speak" reminding us how our memories define us. "Cottonwood Farm" is clearly a very personal song for a beloved grandfather and a time gone, and it seems fitting for it now to be recorded by several generations of the same family. The version of the classic "Highwayman" included here is strangely affecting for the same reason.

The Webb Brothers contribute some interesting songs to an interesting collection, and the feelings shine through. Heartfelt stuff and well worth a listen.

In an age of superficial bands playing generic genre songs, its heartening to hear an album with such an authentic voice. The voice is not just that of legendary super-songwriter Jimmy Webb, but also of his ultra-talented kids - the result is a very honest and briliant album.

Fans of the Webb Brothers will be blown away by the lush compositions and vocals - and fantastic production. The best sounding Webb material to date.

Like the Zombies, or late-period Beach Boys, the Webbs do their own arcane musical thing, regardless of fashion or popularity, and as if they were the biggest band in the world, which they probably should be.

If you live in the UK, you're very lucky to have the Webbs - in the States they are frustratingly obscure. The British appreciation for great songwriting is something to be proud of. Buy this album now!

Family Comes First 22 Mar 2010
Format:Audio CD
Jimmy Webb is a songwriter that paints pictures in words. In this release he accommodates the entire family in a selection of past masters and new songs. With virtually the line-up that toured the UK in the autumn of 2009 the pictures are fresh and inviting. Given time this album will become one of those that music publications go back to as one that got away. That will be a pity so can I suggest you enjoy it while you can.
