4.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth a Listen 16 April 2011
Format:Audio CD
Karen Dalton is one of those shadowy figures from the early 1960s who disappeared whilst others become household names, and I only heard of her via a chance listening on the wireless one evening. This is an hour-and-a-half live recording from 1962, just Dalton and her guitar or banjo, tackling 21 mainly traditional blues and folk numbers, although there are a couple of Fred Neil numbers as well. It's a bit rough in places, and her voice won't appeal to everyone, but there's a lot of great renditions of well-known songs here, her version of 'Darling Corey' is about the best I've heard from anyone. Well worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Musical failure doesn't equate brilliance 30 April 2011
By Richard
Format:Audio CD
I'll be on the side of the Underdog forever and but for circumstances she could have been up there with Judy Collins or Carolyn Hester.
But Karen Dalton saw no more than one track issued during the early 60s and it wasn't till he rediscovery by Fred Neil that she got to make an album
I'd never heard of her till she ended up on a Mojo covermount called Ths Songs that Inspired Bob Dylan. She was though out of place here as she was from the 60s same as he was.
However there are now 4 different CDs mostly taken from demos
Fortunately she had enough sense as to not become a singer songwriter but kept to the traditional folk song area
