Product Description

There is perhaps no style of garden more emotive and evocative than the cottage garden - imbued with a sense of romance, idealised by writers and painters, and so alluring to garden makers all over the world, it has been fashionable for nearly two centuries. But, today we often think of it as outdated, old fashioned, past its sell-by date. Wrong! With the hustle and bustle of today's frantic lifestyle, the cottage garden has never been more appropriate. It is the distillation of the essence of what a garden should be - it is a place of beauty, repose and tranquillity. It enables us to get back in touch with the soil, to enjoy the hugely rewarding, but simple pleasures of sowing seed and taking cuttings, of caring for plants and watching them grow and thrive, of harvesting and eating home grown produce. And when the work is done, we can relax in a beautiful, sweetly scented floral retreat.

Courtyard Gardens 19 April 2009
Format:Paperback
This book was full of good ideas for small spaces, and was diviided up into differing themes with appropriate planting ideas. I bought this book for a friend who is new to gardening and he was delighted with it as it gave him plenty of ideas of what to do with the outside space in his new house.

Lovely book... 4 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback
Lovely book with excellent photographs and illustrations of some stunningly beautiful and imaginatively 'gardened' courtyards - not quite what I wanted, I realised after I received it, because all the courtyards are considerably larger than the one I need to improve but, nevertheless, the book contains some useful ideas that with a bit of imagination can be adapted to a smaller space and, because of the quality of the photographs and illustrations plus the planting suggestions as to species and growth, is worth keeping. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with a sizeable courtyard to develop.
