Book Description

16 April 2013
Using evocative text and delightful imagery, Tony Russell brings to life each of the fifty gardens featured, covering their history, plants, architecture and personalities along the way. The diversity of gardens to be found within the Cotswolds and within this book is quite astonishing. Here you will find grand landscapes such as Blenheim Palace and Dyrham Park, influential pioneers at Iford Manor and Rousham, historical gems such as Prior Park and Painswick Rococo Garden, national icons at Westonbirt Arboretum and Hidcote Manor, contemporary masterpieces at Througham Court and Abbey House and an abundance of English gardens in all their beauty, overflowing with roses, herbaceous borders and pastel shades. All the gardens featured allow public access at some time during the year. The Cotswolds' Finest Gardens is undoubtedly set to become a classic in its genre, a book that will appeal to gardeners and non-gardeners alike, those who live within the region as well as those who visit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just What I Was Looking For 12 Dec 2010
Format:Hardcover
This book is exactly what I was looking for to give a friend who spends time in the Cotswolds every year and loves to visit the gardens in the area. It hits the highlights of the gardens and gives a sense of what each has to offer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lots of style but low on content 16 May 2010
By Wiltshire Bookworm TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I live at the southern end of the Cotswolds and when I saw this book I thought it would be a handy guide to help me learn about many of the gardens within an hour's drive from me and to discover many new ones in the area.

Whilst I have found lots of new gardens and the pictures are most enticing, I'm afraid there isn't actually very much information about each of them. There's just 2-4 pages devoted to a garden with about half of this space taken up with the pictures (50 gardens are described in a total of 160 pages). This leaves a few paragraphs to describe the garden, it's history, development etc. This simply isn't enough for the quality of gardens on offer and is less than the information conveyed in the average tourist leaflet.

I shall be researching further via each garden's website (full details in the book) before setting out to explore these gardens.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pictures of lovely Cotswold's gardens 11 April 2010
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Tony Russell has made a selection of the finest gardens to visit in the lovely Cotswold's. The descriptions of the gardens are short, but to the point. The best feature of this book are the many beautiful photographs. A list of all gardens with address, telephone and website information is also given, so based on your preferences you can research and organize well in advance a tour along your own favorite Cotswold's gardens.
