What I wanted was a book of examples of ancient Greek dress, with dates and illustrations showing construction. So I was initially disappointed to find that this is a republication from 1812, of line drawings made from vases, statues, monuments, etc.
However, it does contain a very wide range of costumes( I never realised how much pattern there was in Greek textiles)as well as hairstyles, footwear, weaponry and musical instruments. As the only reference for Greek and Roman costume it would have serious drawbacks, but in conjunction with other books, more of a treasure than I'd originally thought.
