It's not too specific on each decade, so, if that's what you want, you probably won't enjoy this as much...
But it's very good in telling the whole fashion story in general, touches all the important points and it's very helpful! My History of Fashion teacher actually recommended this book and I don't regret buying it at all! :)

Good, but wanted more 30 Oct. 2012
By M. Wright - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this book alot, i had the 4th edition lent to me by a friend and when I saw a new edition was recently released I jumped on the opportunity to learn more. I have to say I was disappointed with a 10 year gap between publications i expected much more info related to the web and where fashion has gone with globalization.

Basically you get 5 new pages that the book addresses on " the expansion of the Asian luxury market; the rise of "fast fashion," stylists, and celebrity endorsements; and the influence of the Internet." Each topic has a few paragraphs that is more padding than detail. There is basically no insight.

If I'd read this ed. first i'd give it a 5 star but as for the new edition it fails, buy the 4th edition used or new it sells between a .25cent and $3 and don't waste $17 on this new one if you need to be frugal, trust me you aren't missing anything.

James Laver is an internationally known costume historian. 30 Jan. 2013

Comprehensive book, covering costume history from ancient times to the present in 299 pages. Illustrations are wonderful for each time period, right up to the photograph of the wedding ceremony of Prince William and Catherine Middleton in 2011. Laver is known for his "erogenous zones theory," but he definitely has a point of view about costume of every decade, which is so important to our appreciation and understanding of costume history.
Great Condition 7 Oct. 2013

I was wary of purchasing a used book, as I don't typically do so. However this book came out of the box in almost perfect condition. I was very pleased. As for the content itself, its definitely an easy read. The author does a good job of putting the content in a manner which is easy to comprehend without being overwhelming.
