An Alternative worth exploring.

It's late 1968, the Velvet Underground - having completed "White Light/White Heat" are all of a fluster. Main Man Lou had upped and left departing to set up a crochet shop and the Welsh wizard Cale had been roped into to manage his countryman, Tom Jones who was developing a Rock Opera about a one armed, one legged Playboy model (The resulting "Bunny" was shelved after Pete Townsend nicked the best bits.) Clearly the duo of Mo and Sterling were flummoxed and sent out a call to the master oud and bazouki player, Solomon Felthouse, most recently from famed LA combo, Kaleidoscope. Coincidently Serge Gainsbourg and his latest muse, Brigitte Bardot were passing the studio and attracted by the melange of feedback and Turkish vibes, decided to drop in. The contrast between the original chanteuse (Nico) and the new incumbent was starkly revealed in the frantic belly-dancing of Brigitte which caused grown men to come over all funny. The rest as they say is history.

I commend this CD to the House.

Loved this album from the opening bars, the mix of french and english lyrics and the distorted guitars. Reminded me of the Velvet Underground with a scuzzy european flavour, haven't stopped listening to it since i bought it.

If you're into the likes of Anna Calvi, The Vliets or something similar then give it a whirl, I don't think you'll be dissapointed!!

obviously imports take longer to arrive, but when the pricing is this competitive it is worth the wait. The album is stunning! imagine Jane Birkin, Serge Gainsborough, jeff beck, the Velvet Underground and some traditional indian musicians making music together and you may have an inkling as to how good this is?

When I first listened to the album, I fell in love with the bass lines and the syncopated rhythms, but after listening to it several times, I find that some songs are obviously far better than the others, which is disappointing because I therefore only love half the album. Overall though, I like the album very much just for the songs I think are great.
