This soldering kit was purchased to repair my grandsons Scalextric cars, as the cost of buying 2 news cars was near 5 times the price of this kit, and my local repair shop was going to be over double the £8.49 price tag of this kit, so it really was a no brainer that buying this kit would save me a consideral sum of money.
I've never soldered before, and seeing as this kit comes with no instructions, I just assumed it would be a simple case of heating the 2 parts to be joined, and apply the solder... Not quite!
There are several small, but important things you must know before you attempt your first solder join, so I highly recommend that you read the short online "Basic Soldering Guide" [...]
10 minutes reading this short guide will save you a considerable amount of time trying to figuire out why your joins wont solder, or why the components are now damaged with too much heat... and will ensure you make that perfect join!
Okay, on to the actual kit.....
Overall quality seems quite good, and the iron itself is very easy to handle and use.
The iron is light, so its a breeze to maneuver.
I've only used it a few times, so cant comment on its durability, but after reading the aforementioned guide, i'm sure this will last a few years, having already paid for itself on its first job.... so even if this breaks down tomorrow, I will still be happy that it has saved me a lot of money. (Another reviewer here also saved himself a £60 repair bill)
The stand, as well as the De-soldering pump, are two items you will find invaluable... and seeing as you only need a couple millimetres of solder per joint, the included tube of solder should last me quite some time.
I also decided to purchased the Silverline 633830 Helping Hands - Silverline 633830 Helping Hands
and so glad I did.... The benefits of that should be obvious to you, as you will be holding the iron in one hand, and solder wire in the other... so, quite a lot of times, you do need that "Helping Hands" to hold the components together... and the Magnifying glass also speaks for itself!
For quality, quantity, and price of this kit, you'd be hard pushed to find anything close...
I cant reiterate enough that the first job you use this on will pay for itself quite considerably... so why look elsewhere?
