I bought the original Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars, and despite its numerous flaws, I realised it still had a lot of potential. With games like Rise of Nations and Empire Earth the expansions often improved the game immensely, and with that in mind I bought Battle for Europe.
Perhaps this expansion pack is better than the original, although I wouldn't know. I brought the White Label Expansion pack version ( I had also bought the White Label version of Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars) and I popped the disk in to install the game. I thought it odd that the install menu had the original Cossacks II logo and picture on it, but I thought nothing of it until I looked down and realised that I already had the 'play' option highlighted. Clicking on that I was brought straight to the Napoleonic Wars game. I scouted around the menu, looking for new features or levels, but I could not find any. I realise that 'Battle for Europe' is a stand alone expansion pack, so I decided to uninstall 'Napoleonic Wars' and re-install it using the Battle for Europe disk (I remembered to manually remove all traces of the original Cossacks II game, including its folders).
I then re-installed the entire game using the 'Battle for Europe' disk. Heading straight for the game, I again found that there were no changes what so ever. I had essentially been sold Cossacks II: Napoleonic Wars all over again! I check the packaging and the disk, and they both have 'Battle for Europe' plastered on them, but this is clearly not the game I bought.
This is another disappointing release from the White Label company, similar to their release of Rome: Total War Alexander (which couldn't be installed unless you already had the 1.5 patch - which wasn't included on the disk).
This is a huge disappointment. I wonder if any other buyers have suffered similar problems?
Note: I included this in the game's review section rather than the discussion section below (which was my original intention) as I believe this is a serious product flaw which ought to be pointed out. This might otherwise go un-noticed in the discussions section; which could lead to other people buying faulty copies of this game.
