Product Description

Product Description

* From beyond the tyranny of the keyboard came records of epic disco like these two utilising full string orchestra's and creating flights of fancy that today's button pushers could only dream of arranging

* Mike Theodore was at the cutting edge of 70s disco and still sounds ahead of the pack!

5.0 out of 5 stars classy disco 27 May 2011
Verified Purchase
This is one of those big production number disco records with full on orchestra and has both of his albums on it.The excellent "cosmic wind" album and (for me ) the lesser "High on mad mountain" which really starts going into bad disco. Both albums are what I would call 70's big band sound which was popular then..A more commercial sound than the salsoul orchestra, much more than mfsb, similar in vein to mike davis and the monster orchestra's "up jumped the devil" album (which hopefully one day will be re-issued on cd). This really is worth getting for the "cosmic wind" (the other "high on mad mountain" a dubious bonus).

5.0 out of 5 stars AN UNFORGETTABLE DISCO CLASSIC TO LIVE FOREVER! 15 Feb 2001
THIS ALBUM COMPILES TWO LP CLASSIC ALBUMS FROM THE MIKE THEODORE ORCHESTRA. THE FIRST, THE 1976 COSMIC WIND LP INCLUDES DISCO CLASSICS LIKE THE LATIN FLAVOURED "BULL" AND DELIGHTFUL EURO THRASHY "COSMIC WIND". THE SECOND ALBUM ON THIS COLLECTION IS THE "HIGH ON MAD MOUNTAIN" LP WHICH INCLUDES THE ALWAYS TO BE REMEMBERED TITLE TRACK WHICH BECAME A CLASSIC OF ITS OWN AND HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE TOP 500 DISCO SONGS LIST SURVEYED AND COMPILED BY DISCOMUSIC.COM WHICH IS AN AUTHORITY IN DISCO MUSIC HITS. THE REST OF BOTH ALBUMS ARE SUITABLE ADD-ONS THAT MAKE THE WHOLE ALBUMS A JOY TO LISTEN TO AND CREATE A DESIRE TO JUMP ON THE DANCE FLOOR! LONG LIFE TO DISCO MUSIC AND THANKS TO ALL THAT MADE POSSIBLE TO RETRIEVE SUCH A CLASSIC FROM THE OLD VAULTS OF WESTBOUND AND ATLANTIC RECORDS.

4.0 out of 5 stars electrobumper 14 Dec 2001
By "discofied" - Published on Amazon.com
there are two albums on this cd. cosmic wind is from 1977, and i give it only 3 stars. it's a classic disco album, worth listening to. trouble is that the orchestra is to much dominant for my taste. i like my disco to be wicked, full of wha wha guitars and clavinets or synths. and that's where the second album on this cd enters the picture. the second album, high on mad mountain, from 1979 - is a true bumping funkster. this is hardcore wicked disco at it's best!!! i only wish that amazon would attach some sound samples, just so you can know what i'm talking about...

5.0 out of 5 stars Increible!!! 12 Dec 2006
By Juan Roca Guzman - Published on Amazon.com

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than we think 9 April 2004
By Vincent P. Degiorgio - Published on Amazon.com
Both of these records are classics, but I have a real soft spot for the "Cosmic Wind" album. While "Mad Mountain" has tracks that are harder, "The Bull" and "I Love The Way You Move" are totally cool and absolutely essential. Former Motown player Dennis Coffey and Theodore himself but together a duo of great albums here, and we're lucky that the notoriously out of touch Westbound label actually allowed them to get reissued. The Tom Moulton mix on Cosmic doubles the price of admission, and are an absolute must for anyone who loves the Salsoul sound with a different twist..

5.0 out of 5 stars still "High On Mad Mountain" 5 Oct 2007

This two disc set is terrific, but I must admit my preference for High On Mad Mountain. The synthesizers were used in stunning format, the vocals were right on and highly stylized. This album came out when I did, and I listened to it daily on my, oh gawd - Eight Track in my Vega! YIKES!

Mike Theodore was a brilliant musician and made an indelible, and often copied mark in the dance music business. Thank you SIR!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Peak for High On Mad Mountain 13 May 2002
By Johnny Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
This is the best DISCO record made, but only for the 'High On Mad Mountain' album, 'Cosmic Winds' is weak, sure there are other so called disco could be better rated, the song and album 'That's Where The Happy People Go' by Trammps, 'The Glow Of Love' by Change, but this is DISCO, and the best of all the DETROIT type.
