This is an entertaining & enjoyable 2 CD collection of Marc & T.Rex live in 1971. The set list doesn't / won't hold any big surprises but, as ever, Marc delivers the goods.
The sound quality on this set is ok . It compares pretty favourably to other recordings of T.Rex from this period, that you may have heard (on the "Electric Boogie" or "Total T.Rex" box sets, for example). One big highlight, is a great version of "Jewel" on CD 1,which is absolutely tip top
The insert notes are a bit superficial with one or two little errors (eg calling him Marc, rather than, Mark, Feld) but hey, that's me being pedantic !
All in all, it's an enjoyable "live" ride through some of Marc's best work, although it doesn't have the same crackle & intensity of atmosphere you can hear (& almost touch) on the live disc on the "Born To Boogie" two CD set, it's still very definately worth getting hold of.

This is a very well put togethet collection of the early career of Marc Bolan, with alternative versions of some of his earlier hits and album tracks. Some of these versions are already in most collections of Marc's work, but this is a good look at some of the work done my Marc in an alternative form.
A good addition for most collectors of his work.

I wanted Marc Bolans music when I watched the film Billy Elliot. Also its a blast from the past....
I couldn't find anywhere on the net except the link attached to the amazon ad..
You either like the music or you don't.

Big disapointment 12 Sept. 2001
By Stuart Gregg - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
There are a lot of T-Rex compilations about so I ordered this and the Very Best of Marc Bolan & T Rex, thinking I would pretty much get all the T-Rex tracks I liked, unfourtunatly what I didn't realise is this contains alternate takes and live versions of the tracks, and for me they just don't cut it, the studio tracks are the version that didn't get used ( wonder why ?) and the live tracks lack the energy of the studio originals that made them so special.
I would only recomend this if you are a Fan and have everything else by T-Rex, otherwise steer clear.

For Rex Competists Only 10 Feb. 2002
By Robert Carlberg - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
A couple alternate takes and a lot of pretty grotty live tapes. The package doesn't really tell the buyer what to expect -- from a casual glance it appears to be a "greatest hits" compilation.
That's probably exactly what the producers intended.

A wonderful introduction to T. Rex 26 Nov. 2000
By M. Gaudet - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
In case you overlooked T. Rex until you finally reacted to Cosmic Dancer playing for the opening credits of the movie Billy Elliot, you can be sure that the same era T. Rex is here in resplendant form, and the disc will be a great introduction to the band, and maybe all you'll ever need. Jeepster rolls along brilliantly, Cosmic Dancer is dreamy, and of course, Bang a Gong is here in the right context, and won't seem antagonistically good next to the usual selection you find it beside on the Best Of CD's. This is the one T. Rex CD that successfully steps outside its era, and is enjoyable to anyone who is not attracted necessarily to Glam Rock, but the idiosyncratic lyrics and delicious beats.

Save your money... 13 Jan. 2006
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I had confused this record with The Slider - otherwise I doubt I would have purchased it. Stuff recorded elsewhere, bad sound quality... Unless you are intent on owning everything ever recorded by T.Rex, don't waste your money.
