In certain situations this can be the most annoying device imaginable. In normal use the PSU lays somewhere between quiet and silent, with plenty of connectors for all your devices and extra sockets should be wanting a dual SLI graphics setup.

However, and it is (for me) a BIG however! The system that Corsair use to reduce the power usage is based on the current draw and temperature of the PSU, with the intention that when low power is being used and the PSU is running at a lower temperature there would be no need for the fans to be spinning. This in theory should reduce overall noise and power consumption of your system, unfortunately depending on the devices in your system you may be just at the point where its slightly too hot to not have the fans spinning but as soon as the fans spin it cools it to the point that it turns the fans off. This off and on nature of the fans creates a very irritating (and loud!) buzzing noise from the fans, which can even be seen if you open up your case when it's doing it. Should a little more or less power be needed then the issue disappears and even when the fans are spinning it is failry quiet. All this could easily be rectified by either allowing the user to override the functionality (which you cant) or having a minimum time that the fan spins of even a few seconds, but alas this is not the case.

Perhaps if you have a fairly low power system, or one that runs naturally hot and draws a lot of power this may be a winner for you. But my water cooled system just doesn't keep the heat to keep away that annoying buzz. This has also been confirmed by many google searches of other users that have experianced the same problem.

Bought this to replace my last upgrade which was - to my embarrassment - a cheap 800W EZCool PSU. That one exploded rather magnificently. This, however appears rock solid and VERY well built. Straight out of the box it oozes quality and it even allows you to select between three LED colours via a small switch, should that float your geek-laden boat.

There are enough connectors to accommodate even the most avid builder (including 4 x PCI-E connectors) and the cables are a good length. The only downside to so many connections is that you'll inevitably end up trying to hide all the spare ones.

Thus far, it's running very cool and remains quite even under heavy load with BF3 running on SLI'd GTX 560s.

Providing it doesn't also explode (I remain confident it won't), I can heartily recommend this PSU based on price, performance, build quality and awesome multi-coloured lightyness. Oh, and apparently it's efficient.

Very effective, a little bit loud, but not bad if you have a silencing case like I do, definitely runs my GTX 690 absolutely fine

PSU worked great for the first few months, done the job and wasn't too loud either. Then randomly it would turn off, no BSOD, nothing. Eventually it just died and did not work at all. I decided to do tests on the machine and each test I done proved it all broken, I also switched the PSU for another working one and the problem did not occur so I could be sure it was the PSU's fault. I decided to email the seller and was told to send it back which I did and now every time I email him (s)he just says the PSU is still in testing and no fault was found. It has been testing for over 2 weeks and I have had to use me 5 years old laptop, and even when a problem is found he said it will take another month to send out. Very frustrating. (Will re-write review if/when I get the PSU back fixed.)

Corsair never disappoints when it comes to reliability and quality, gave it a 4 because the cables are quite stiff and has a slight hum to it but nothing too bad, fans and hdd would still be loudest components in case

this PSU is great. bit of an overkill at the moment on my machine but it should last me for ages and give me room to expand my machine later on. good buy!
