Manufacturer's Description

The Corsair Hydro Series H70 is the best choice for high performance CPU cooling. A worthy big brother to the already excellent Hydro Series H50, the H70 improves upon the design in every way. A low profile pump and improved cold plate allow for even easier mounting to your CPU. Compatibility with all modern AMD and Intel desktop CPU sockets is included in the box. A higher-performance radiator with nearly twice the surface provides even more room for liquid to get cool before it returns to the cold plate. And as if that weren’t enough, the Hydro Series H70 comes with twin high-performance 120mm fans, optimized for a push-pull configuration, to allow maximum airflow through the radiator. The Corsair Hydro Series H70 is the best choice for a high performance CPU cooler on the market, bar none.

I've always wanted to give water cooling a go as I've always struggled with high CPU temperatures on air cooling - and corsair here have made it possible at an affordable price in this all-in-one hassle free solution. The Corsair H70 is an upgraded version of their well reputed and received predecessor, the H50. Upon inspection, the pump is shorter in height, but the radiator has doubled in width; it is much thicker than the H50, along with some other redesigns. You are also supplied with two 2000RPM fans that can be used in a "push-pull" configuration, although you are free to use your own 120mm fans since they will mount on the radiator just fine. Pre-applied thermal paste is also applied on the base of the pump which seems to work really well - you shouldn't need to remove it and replace it with your own.

Installation is pretty straight forward, as with all CPU coolers, installing the backplate is the first step, followed by the pump's mounting ring around the CPU socket area. The radiator and the fans are then fitted onto your case, which is the spot closest to your motherboard's I/O shield. Upon first boot up, you will not need to do anything else - the cooling solution will automatically start flowing, and you are not required to refill anything. The tubes also feel very sturdy and rigid, which to my expectations, is Corsair's quality.

I would recommend the Corsair H70 if you're experiencing high temperatures on your CPU, or if you simply want to experience some great quality water cooling. This would also be amazing for overclockers and enthusiasts - my temperatures were dropped by almost 10c on an i5-750 @4ghz from one of the most high-end air coolers (I was previously using the Thermalright Venomous-X cooler). My temperatures sit at around 30-35 idle, and never seems to exceed 55-60 on maximum CPU load.

After overclocking my Intel i7 920 based PC to 4GHz I decided to try and improve the temperatures I was seeing using the Thermal Right TRUE120 with two fans. After a lot of agonizing over it I decided finally to take the plunge and go for a water cooling based solution. Like most people the idea of mixing water and electronics was a bit nerve racking but the H70 has received many great reviews across the internet, so that is what I went for:

Packaging
The H70 comes very well packaged with plenty of protection for the delicate parts.

Installation
This was very easy, just undo a few screws and whip out the old stuff, slap in the H70 and do up the screws! In fact there were only 12 screws and three wires to fiddle with, every thing you need to get it fitted and running is supplied. The pipes are long enough to reach either the back or top of most cases. I have a CM Storm Sniper case and mounted the fans and radiator at the back. The supplied instruction were very easy to follow.

Ease of use
Once connected all I had to do was switch on the PC and watch the temperatures. The fans are quite noisy at full speed, but quieten down if you use the supplied resistor cables. Alternatively, if you have or can get a fan controller you can connect the fans to that and have them as loud or quiet as you wish. I run them at the slowest speed they will run at using my cases built in fan controller and even then the CPU never gets anywhere near to hot. The only time I turn it up a bit is when doing VERY CPU intensive work/gaming. Even then 50% speed is enough to keep it cool, and bear in mind I've got my CPU overclocked to 4GHz.

Having recently upgraded my PC case to a coolmaster I wanted to go the whole hog and replace the heatsink and fan with a water cooled system.

A friend of mine introduced me to water cooling back in 2004 but st the time I was concerned about the risks involved with putting water into an expensive system.

The fact that the Corsair is a sealed unit helped eliviate the risks involved. Goods were delivered promptly and with the aide of a fellow work colleague was fitted into the PC with ease and minimal fuss.

Be advised that the radiator is larger than you think, factor in the fact that two 120mmm fans are also fitted makes this a chunky lump. so you must consider in the size of the case you are proposing to fit this to.

All in all a superb bit of kit which has significantly reduced the temperature of the CPU.

PROS:
Great Cooler!
Great Price!
Great Product!

CONS:
None

I have an i7 920 overclocked from 2.6GHz to 3.8GHz and see core temretures from 35c-45c (depending on how much im doing)
im very impressed.

Also i reduced (through a fan controller) the fan Speed to 1050rpm (stock it has 2 settings: 1600rpm and 2000rpm) but im happy with my temps running it slow and silent :)

TETSING:
After the overlock i ran Prime95 CPU Burn Test for 22hours!! At 100% CPU Burn the temps were about 66c-70c (but it never went over 70c) For a 3.8 GHz OC Prime95 test im very impressed.

(by the way: the intel core i7 can go up to 100c without damage)
