Neutron Series SSDs give you consistently fast storage speed, no matter what kind of work you do with your PC. The advanced Link_A_Media (LAMD)SATA 3 SSD controller provides both high IOPS and super-fast sequential read speeds for reliably fast results

Neutron Series SSDs give you consistently fast storage speed, no matter what kind of work you do with your PC. The advanced Link_A_Media (LAMD)SATA 3 SSD controller provides both high IOPS and super-fast sequential read speeds for reliably fast results.

Neutron Series delivers strong overall storage performance without tradeoffs. It's performance that goes beyond great benchmark scores, and speed you can count on no matter what type of work you do on your PC

Many SSDs achieve quick load times with files that can be compressed and decompressed at the read/write stage, but slow down significantly reading data that's already compressed. Neutron goes one better by offering impressive performance even with compressed and non-compressible data.

Neutron Series SSDs snap into place on most notebooks, even in many of the latest slim designs that have additional space restrictions. An adapter is included for wide desktop PC support. SSDs compress and decompress files on the fly. Some solid-state drives hit a performance bottleneck when opening files that can’t be further compressed. This includes video, audio, and image files — and if your PC is also your entertainment center or you work with media files as part of your job, lesser SSDs can slow you down. Neutron’s real-world performance design focus means impressive file loading times even with non-compressible data.

Because SSDs have no moving parts, they can handle shock, vibration and temperature changes far in excess of traditional hard drives. That's important for desktop PCs, and essential for notebooks.

Traditional mechanical hard drives spin at thousands of revolutions per minute. This takes power, and generates noise and heat. Since SSDs have no moving parts, there's no noise or vibration, and the lower power consumption helps keep things cool inside your PC. It can also save battery life on notebooks.

Great drive! Having bought 3 OCZ Vector drives that lasted only a couple of months before ceasing to work properly, went for this , although it is supposed to be rated slower, it is just as fast in practice and more important keeps on working. The drive transformed my desktop, now everything works much much faster, from loading to rendering HD video, I find the 250 gig size no problem,I just keep transferring data to my other drives.

Fast, Cool and Corsair 4 July 2013
By Norseman - Published on Amazon.com

I have never been disappointed in any Corsair product, this drive is no exception.
It looks great, shipped quickly and it is blazing fast.
I am most surprised by the price and warranty $189 and 5 years. And *MTBF: 2,000,000 hours, that's "Mean time Between Failure" and that is 228 years. 24 hour a day. If it last 114 years, I'm good! HEY, only 57 is OK.
This drive is MLC (Better)not TLC (more wear) as the Samsung is. Plus the warranty and price both beat Samsung.

Installation was quick and easy with the included drive adapter and screws. I used "Acronis 2013 with Plus Pack" which took maybe 15 minutes to clone from a 1TB WD Black with 110GB on it.

First "Shut down" and disconnect the power cord. Plug in a Sata data and Sata power cable. Startup. (Don't forget to plug it back in first.)

Go into disk management first to initialize the drive and create a Simple volume , then clone. I did disconnect my data drive before startup to avoid confusion. Shut it down at the end of cloning,( Un-plug your computer again) place it in the "C" drives spot and connectors.
Note: If you have a Factory Computer, make sure you do a "DISK Clone" to include all other partitions (Boot and SYS Reserve)on the Drive, if they are present.

On first startup go into BIOS and set Boot order to Corsair SSD as First Boot.
Then you're all set.

As to defrag, Windows 8 will inquire as to the rotational speed of the drive when it wants to defrag. The drive reports "0". Windows will then set the Trim command automatically.
You should be in AHCI mode (Advanced Host Controller Interface) in the BIOS for best performance. There are several ways to do it if you were set to IDE. By far the easiest is to go to the Microsoft web site and search for the AHCI "FIXIT" Button. Apply and reboot to BIOS , set to AHCI. The other way is a registry value change of the Msahci key. However if you are not sure about it , do it the easy way, Microsoft Fixit button.
IF..you were IDE and only change the BIOS to AHCI without the fix, it will BSOD on you.

As for the Corsair Nuetron 256gb SSD;

It made the Gateway computer cooler, silent and much faster. A win all the way around.

"HD Tune" ver. 2.55 results, the Gateway AMD PII X-6 (2 years old) is a SATA II motherboard (880G chipset). HD tune says it is getting , 250MB/sec, very close to SATA II limits.

Update: I installed a second Corsair Neutron on my other computer which is a SATA III board and a FX 8150, HD Tune gave me 500MBs average straight across. Great performance.
Update2: Just bought my third Neutron drive. I HAD bought a Crucial MX100, just because of the price. Many errors later returned it and went back to a winner.
Moral? Just go with the good stuff, Corsair.

The Windows 8 Pro 64bit "WEI" went from 5.9 ( WD SATA 2 Black HDD) to 7.9 with the Corsair SSD.
This is a "Recommended Buy"

Win 8 will Trim the drive when it performes maintenance, or go to drive tools and hit Defrag and it will Trim the drive. So do not turn off Windows maintenance on Win 8. Set it for daily.

Highly recommended BUY!

Unbelievable! 26 Jun. 2013
By MOAR COARS - Published on Amazon.com

I just purchased a Corsair Neutron 256GB for one of my builds that I am doing and I'm blown away by the performance of this drive. My Windows 7 disk experience score went from 5.2 to 7.9 which is the highest it can go. Since I do a lot of backups and transfer large files, everything is so fast now compared to my old HDD that was starting to show its age. One thing to remember when installing an SSD is to make sure you connect it to a SATA3 6Gb/S port because you will not get the full speed of the SSD if you install it to a SATA2 port.

The formatted size is 238GB and access and read speed are as advertised. I purchased the Corsair Neutron 256GB to replace my two years old Western Digital Blue 1TB because it was starting to show its age. Games would take forever to load and some of the programs that I use (CAD, Maya, Autodesk) would take forever to load on that HDD. I have four different SSDs at home from Intel 520, 840 Pro, Crucial M4 and now the Corsair Neutron and they are all blazing fast. I have sold the majority of my HDDs at home and only kept SSDs. I have three 2TB HDDs for HD movies and games and that's plenty for me.

The installation process is very simple. You just have to make sure to enable AHCI in the BIOS (not IDE) so the SSD can work like it should. Also, make sure you flash the latest bios for your motherboard first before you install this drive. I was getting half the advertised read/write speeds but once I flashed the latest BIOS for my motherboard, it was all good. Another important thing to do after installation is to install the latest SATA drivers and chipset because it makes a huge difference. I got 100MB+ in read and write after installing the latest SATA drivers.

I never get to see the entire Windows boot animation with this SSD which shows how fast this thing is. Windows 7 starts in ~8 seconds and shuts down in less than that. Everything opens immediately and games load fast and run great. I have disabled indexing, prefetch, defrag and hibernation because they are not needed when using an SSD. I have even gone ahead and completely disabled page file because most people recommend it to disable it since SSDs are already fast enough. I would recommend you keep page file if you are on a HDD but not on a SSD. You also save a ton of free space if you disable page file which is great.

I have nothing but good things to say about the Corsair Neutron 256GB and since it's much cheaper than the competition, it's also a better buy than those other SSDs. Intel 520 and Samsung 840 256GB are both above $200+ but the Corsair Neutron 256GB is below $190. The Corsair Neutron 256GB is defiantly worth the price. I'm testing the Corsair Neutron 256GB with Crysis 3 and BF3 and maps load instantly. I had to wait over 30 seconds before to load the maps with my old Western Digital Blue HDD.

Pros:

+ Sturdy
+ Great Packaging
+ Blazing Fast
+ Corsair Quality
+ Cheaper than the competition

Cons:

- None

Overall, I highly I highly recommend upgrading to a Corsair Neutron 256GB SSD if you are still on a HDD. The quick boot and super fast load of applications is amazing. The Corsair Neutron 256GB is also a lot cheaper than the competition and is as fast as Intel 520 and Samsung 840 Pro. Corsair's customer service is amazing and I have never had a problem with them.

My main rig:

Case: Corsair 900D
GPU: EVGA GTX Titan
CPU: Intel Core i7 4770K (still experimenting)
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 1000W
Ram: Kingston 16GB of RAM
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
MB: ASUS Sabertooth Z87
OS: Windows 7 64bit

Blazing performance 5 Dec. 2013

This is my first SSD. My motherboard only supports SATA 2. So I knew that this SSD will be bottle-necked by my mobo. Got this over the Samsung 840 Evo because this one is MLC and comes with 5 year warranty. Very pleased with the performance. It doesn't come with any cables. I bought the cables separately, plugged it in, cloned my old hard drive with OS, and booted with this one. Worked like a charm. Enabled AHCI in Windows 7 and a bunch of other SSD optimization. I had a decent 7200rpm HDD which used to take 60 seconds from power on to the log in screen and 60 more seconds after log in to get everything loaded and to open a website on the browser. Now with Corsair Neutron, those times are 30s to log in and 15s more to be on the YouTube homepage! i.e. It has brought my overall start up time from 2 minutes to around 45 seconds. Very impressive. If only my BIOS loaded faster, the start up numbers would be even better. The computer runs like butter. No more stutters and lags while running applications. Because of the SATA 2 bottleneck on my computer this drive is limited to ~260MB/s for both read and write. All benchmarks and other reviews say that it would perform a lot better on a SATA 3 interface. Will definitely recommend this drive to anyone.

Better for desktop rather than mobile. 4 Feb. 2014
By Andrew - Published on Amazon.com

I have to make this quick as I'm working, but thought I would let people know about this drive.

This drive isn't the fastest, but still scored over 1000 on AS SSD testing. So pretty darn good. I bought due to combination of low price (at the time, but there are better deals out there, notably the M500's) and the hype of the LAMD controller.

The first one I had was getting above 50 deg C during normal use and was throwing a ton of errors and performance was terrible. I exchanged the drive (awesome service by Amazon), and this one is much better. Although sometimes it does still get above 40 deg and still throws out quite a few errors in SMART, but I do not notice any performance hit. I also noticed my battery life is still the same as with the spinny disk drive. Probably from the high heat/power usage. In a desktop this wouldn't be much of an issue.

So in short, I am worried about longevity due to the errors, (NAND read retries and soft ECC corrections) and would have to recommend the Crucial M500 series instead. I had the older Force GT and it had such poor performance that I hesitated to buy this one and only got it because of the price.
As it's a work laptop, I would feel safer with a different drive and will probably end up swapping it out in the near future with the Crucial, which I've had great luck with in the 5 I've owned.

Ask any questions and I will try to answer when I have more time.
