I bought this PSU for a headless server that uses between 50 and 80W (measured at the wall soccket with a power meter)

The PSU worked fine for 3 weeks (24h a day) until it suddenly died without warning. No power and the PSU fan wouldn't start. Confirmed it was the PSU by replacing with a spare that worked immediately.

This PSU is one of the cheapest 400W unit you can find that isn't from a no-name company, but branded or not, it seems you still get what you pay for.

On top of that it wasn't very quiet (until it died that is)

I have just returned two of these to a different supplier due to what seems to be a problem of short circuiting, possibly caused by design or manufacturing problems. In short, both units had a whining sound and pulled about 20w when switched off via the toggle switch at the back, and 30w hen switched on and not even connected to anything but the mains!! It's supposed to be EuP compliant so should use no more than 1w with a suitable motherboard on standby/sleep, let alone when connected only to the wall. I also noticed on the second one that the circuit board looked slightly bowed. I might be unlucky and have bought from a faulty batch but I would steer clear of these as you might end up paying over £30 per year just to have it plugged in. If you have already bought one, get it checked out sooner rather than later.

Good Power Supply 6 Jan 2012
By Linley
The power supply arrived on time and has all the required plugs (one needs splitting in two for my motherboard but it is designed for that and it's easy once you know). It is working without any problem. Very good value.

Rock solid
Runs quiet and cool and has enough connectors for my needs (4 SATA or less). The wires are shielded and thick, so they do look "cleaner" than if you have non-shielded wires, but I... Read more

Great price for a great product
Quiet PSU with all the standards. Only problem is the length of the molex cable - a little short for my likings and had to move HDD further up to accommodate for this. Read more
