5.0 out of 5 stars The cover doesn't do this book justice., 16 Aug 2003

One of the better books on posing for the camera that I have found so far.

The author initially covers identifying the common problem areas and working with the subjects, before going on to discuss posing and lighting to minimise the problem areas. In addition there are sections on clothing, scenes, and outdoor work.

The book has plenty of illustrations with over 100 photographs including good versus bad type images, along with galleries of successful poses.

This book concentrates mainly on the everyday younger female as a subject, although many of the techniques can also be applied to other subjects as well.

Up until I bought it, the front cover had put me off buying this book - the back cover does it better justice in my opinion.

A boon to anyone getting into portraiture who knows the basics of studio photography, but needs to work more with the subject to achieve better results.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful and well written, 8 Jul 2004
This book is concise and full of useful ideas. It is aimed at professional studios, but as a non-professional I find that to be reassuring as there is no mass of padding or being talked down to, just useful clear information. It is written in an entertaining style, so is interesting to read. I think the approach of the author is very open. He does not believe in working to restrictive formulas (no 'men must sit in this pose to look macho, women must sit in this one and look submissive' as you still find in some books), he readily adapts to suit the needs of the sitter. Loads of info on what flaws to look for in people and how to overcome them both technically and tactfully! Well worth the money - wish I had found this book sooner.
