When was the last time someone in your company did something really stupid, but everyone went along with it anyway? It's hard to read this book without thinking about the countless times you, or someone nearby, has fallen for the vices described in this book. It's also hard to read it without laughing - both at the people in it, and yourself too.

Corporate Vices is quite unusual for having a business person as an author; this guy was one of the famous dot com barons who got suddenly rich on that wave of craziness, but lost it all again. There's some bitterness here, perhaps, but also a credibility from having been there and done it as well.

Why read this? Because the worst mistakes are the ones you don't know you're making; having read Corporate Vices, there are quite a few which I and others I've shared it with won't be making again, for sure.

It is so easy, when running a business, to slide into all the vices Charles illustrates and his candid over-view provides the
perfect opportunity to take stock of your business practises
(and other peoples) and to consider common sense rather than spin as a means to take things forward.

A must for everyone running a large or small business, brilliantly written, well researched and jargon free. A great, entertaining read.

Don't mistake this as another perfect-hindsight dotcom disaster analysis, it's not. It's about mainstream business, and how it affects us all. Whether you are an executive, shareholder, or just Joe Public with a pension, this book is for you.

Interspersing case studies with authoritative (but digestible) research, Charles Cohen offers rational explanations for what's wrong with modern business practices, how we got where we are, and what we need to do to fix the problems. He even has the courage to make it personal and questions the wisdom of some hitherto deified management gurus.

Well written, well researched, and right on the mark about the scandalous activities that have become accepted as the norm in modern corporate life, this book is compelling.

At the end of each chapter there is a self-test that poses six questions. I think that it would be amusing to take the book with you to the AGM of any large company in which you have shares, and pose a few of those questions to the Board of Directors. Go on. I dare you.
