Product Description

The film is Bhandarkar's scathing and hard-hitting look at the enigmatic world of entrepreneurship. Corporate examines the dynamics of corporate world and paints a realistic picture of the corporatedom. Bipasha plays the role of an ambitious individual who is determined to climb the corporate ladder through her shrewd manipulations.

Product Description

Corporate centers around the power games between two industrialists, The Sehgal Group of Industries (SGI) owned by Vinay Sehgal (Rajat Kapoor) and the Marwah Group of Industries owned by Dharmesh Marwah (Raj Babbar). The two companies are traditional rivals in the food products business. Bipasha Basu playsNishigandha Dasgupta aka Nishi, vice president of SGI, while Vinay Sehgal's brother-in-law Ritesh (Kay Kay Menon) joins in later as senior vice president.Ashwini, a politician backed by Sehgal, become the Union Finance Minister, which helps the Sehgal Group to enter a lucrative partnership with international food products giants Friscon. In a CII meeting, the state Finance Minister Gulabrao declares that a public sector unit (PSU) is for sale. Both the companies pounce into the competition using every tactic they have to outperform each other. But last-minute politicking by Marwah with Gulabrao leads to the PSU going to the Marwah Group, leaving Sehgal disappointed. However, Nishi charms Marwah Group's CEO Pervez, and is then able to steal critical information from his laptop computer: she finds out that Marwah had been misleading the media that they were planning to manufacture mineral water in the plant, whereas in reality they were planning to manufacture a mint-based soft drink. The Sehgal Group publicly announces that they will be launching their own mint-based soft drink, which they've named "Just Chill", pre-empting the Marwah Group's planned launch. Marwah traces the leak to Pervez and fires him.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Public-Spirited Film 27 Jan 2008
Format:DVD
This is a very interesting film to emerge from Bollywood at a time when there is a seismic shift in Indian society away from the public sector towards the private sector.

It very cleverly incorporates the process of institutional corruption that may occue as state-owned enterprises are sold to the private sector, whilst at the same time challenging the profit-centred ethos of the private corporation where decent and professional people are often driven to behave in indecent and unprofessional ways - managing this behaviour is one of the great challenges of the twenty-first century. I would recommend seeing this movie alongside the documentary, 'The Corporation'. There's also an interesting nod in this film towards the Coca-Cola polluted water scandal of a couple of years back.

The movie itself is a competent drama involving industrial espionage wrapped around the personal tale of Nishi, the ever-beautiful Bipasha Bapu, dressed to kill in power suits in a way that will leave men worldwide drooling. (However, there is a scene where she is actually upstaged by Shweta Menon playing the role of a prostitute - be careful Bips!)

It's a good film but doesn't quite make five stars because of an improbable scene where a manager puts in a bid for a company that even a stupid manager wouldn't make - it undermines the plot slightly - and the ending is snatched at a little - but overall, some good entertainment with a bit more thought in it than most movies.
