What is the Torch Relay?
The torch relay of modern times transports the flame from Greece to the various designated sites of the games will give people across the UK the chance to be involved in the countdown to the start of the London 2012 Games.
Where is it taking place?The Olympic Torch Relay will help shine a light on the whole of the UK – from dynamic urban areas to places of outstanding natural beauty. Torchbearers will carry the Flame through more than 1000 cities; towns and villages in the UK. The Olympic Flame will come within 10 miles of 95% of people in the UK; Isle of Man; Guernsey and Jersey. It will enable local communities to shine a light on the best their area has to offer – including celebrations of local culture; breathtaking landscapes and dynamic urban areas.
When is it taking place?The relay will start on May 19th at Land’s End and finish 70 days; over 1000 communities and 8000 torchbearers later in the London 2012 Olympic stadium on 27th July.
Carrying the Flame8000 people will carry the Olympic Flame during the Torch Relay. Their personal stories will have the power to inspire millions of people watching around the world.

The Olympic TorchThe London 2012 Olympic Torch features 8000 small cut-out circles; representing the 8000 inspirational people who will carry it on its journey around the UK.
Design: an inspirational 8000The Torch is made up of an inner and an outer aluminum alloy skin; held in place by a cast top piece and base; perforated by 8000 circles. The circles represent the inspirational stories of the 8000 Torchbearers who will carry the Olympic Flame.
Shape: the power of '3'The triangular-shaped Torch was inspired by a series of 'threes' that are found in the history of the Olympic Games and the vision for the Olympic Movement:
- The three Olympic values of respect; excellence and friendship
- The three words that make the Olympic motto – faster; higher; stronger
- The fact that the UK has hosted the Olympic Games in 1908; 1948 and will host them for the third time in 2012
- The vision for the London 2012 Olympic Games to combine three bodies of work – sport; education and culture
The gold colour embraces the qualities of the Olympic Flame – the brightness and the warmth of the light that it shines.

I bought two of these from Amazon directly when they had it in stock at £9.99 for my two children and they really liked it as a memento of the fantastic opening ceremony (we actually gave it to them as the cauldron was being lit!).
We have kept ours in the packs but you can see that they are well made (as you would expect from Corgi) and have a reasonable weight to them.
They have plenty of detail (of the perforations (although these are solid on this model unlike the original torches) and of the top where the flame would come out on the actual torches) and look great!
Not the most playable toy but hopefully and enjoyable memento which looks nice and will appreciate in value over time.

"How happy was I to find this on Amazon, and I was able to get a stand for it too from WolfCubDesigns. Fantastic service from both sellers and quick well protected delivery. It looks amazing, I now have a memento from all my 2012 Olympic experiences. It's fairly heavy, the only downside is it's a yellow gold colour as opposed to the more brass like colour of the actual torch.This is a keepsake rather than a toy"

I have purchased a number of these for myself, my friends and family. This is a great piece of London 2012 memorabilia to own. They are really good quality and look like the real thing. Please don't get put off by those saying it is not hollow, as if it was made in this way then would look so wrong and cheap.
I am lucky to own both the first (now sold out) and second edition, both purchased from Amazon, but what ever edition you do get, you wont be disappointed!

Great product. Very detailed torch. Solid & weighty. Definately good value for the RRP. Purchased 2 of these from Amazon only 1 week ago (1 for each of my children). So pleased i could get them after originally hearing they were sold out everywhere. The plan is to keep them in the packaging, wrapped up somewhere safe for the future. Who knows what they could end up being worth.
