Arcangelo Corelli was a giant in his genre and I think it is not easy nowadays to play his Sonatas with respect of his ideas, tempos and sound as well as making music of such high quality for our times. I think that in this record the Italian musicians reach the top. Enrico Gatti may have been closer to what Baroque Corelli meant, and I hope to buy his cd one day, but at the moment probably I could not stand is very slow tempo, especially in the Folia masterpiece. Dantone and co. made it great and I can listen to them for hours, getting great energy from La Folia.
It is not cheap but if you like this type of music it is really worth to have (and indeed listen to) this cd. It has also a very clear sound, SACD playable on all cd players.
