Professional editing power
New: HDR tools: A totally new set of HDR tools in PaintShop Pro X4 is designed to let you take full advantage of photos taken with auto-bracketing features on DSLRs.
You can use Exposure Merge to combine photos taken with different exposure settings to create perfectly exposed images. Ideal for high-contrast backlit scenes, such as sunsets and interior window shots, Exposure Merge lets you bring out colour and detail in the foreground, midground, and background areas. PaintShop Pro X4 has built-in HDR-adjustment presets, or you can save and reuse your favourite configurations as a preset.
For photographers who use auto-bracketing often, Batch Merge is a time-saving tool for quickly processing HDR sets. It lets you merge multiple bracketed sets of photos at the same time to achieve a custom, uniform look across a series of HDR photos. Batch Merge lets you save your results to a 32-bit HDR file so you can refine it later. In some cases, this might be all you need to get the look you were hoping for. In other cases, you'll want to adjust the results in Exposure Merge.
New: Photo Blend: Getting a group shot where everyone looks their best just got a lot easier with Photo Blend. This new feature lets you combine the best features from a series of photos to create a perfect image. For example, you can swap out a blinking photo subject from one picture for a better shot of that person. And if the only thing that stands between a good photo and a perfect one is an unwanted element, Photo Blend makes it easy to remove unwanted portions of images. You can even get creative by showing the same person multiple times in a single photo.
New: Fill Light and Clarity filter: Using this one powerful filter, you can fine-tune the brightness and clarity of your photos. The Fill Light/Clarity filter simplifies brightening shadows or darkening light areas without affecting other portions of the image. You can also soften or sharpen subtle yet important details in shots.
New: Selective Focus: This new effect lets you transform a real shot into a miniature model. Selective Focus, often referred to as a tilt-shift effect, lets you intuitively adjust the depth of field and increase saturation to create the illusion of a toy-like miniature scene from a photo. You can also use Selective Focus to draw attention to important parts of an image by blurring out busy surrounding details.
New: Vignette: PaintShop Pro X4 makes this classic photo effect easier than ever to create, tweak, and apply. The new Vignette feature adds a soft outer border that fades to white or black so you can draw attention to the most important part of your shot. Easy-to-use controls let you fine-tune the shape of the edges and the amount of blur, glow, and feathering. In addition, an instant preview lets you quickly see how the effect looks.

It is easy to get sucked in by the huge amount of momentum of Adobe Photoshop Elements, which is clearly a good product - but this is the serious competition that should not be ignored. Corel are one of 'greats' in software and this product has everything for the digital photographer that wants to improve their shots and take them to the next level. Whether you want to just want to retouch something or whether you want to merge photos together to create art, this package has everything. It also responds very quickly showing you your finished product in record time.
The packaging is excellent and the software is contained inside on a single disk. However...if you are of a nervous disposition this is the time to take your meds... it comes with a clear and colourful manual!!! I am torn between saying 'how retro' and 'what a relief'. The manual is small enough to be readable and large enough to be an adequate reference. I recommend this product thoroughly.

Wow, this product has come on leaps and bounds since I last used it about 6 years ago.
I've used Paint Shop Pro since v5 and loved it back then but in more recent years moved to Photoshop Elements 'cause that's just what you do, right? Maybe not.
When I first bought my Digital SLR camera the de-facto software to get was Photoshop Elements. It's just what everyone said to do. There's screeds of books on it too and it's very good, largely because it's an excellent catalog of all your photos. Sadly, no-one mentions Paint Shop Pro when talking about photo editing but maybe people should start to.
So back to PSP X4: wouldn't say it has the same cataloging features as PSE9 but it does allow you to easily drill down through your folders (and all my pictures are organised by year and topic) so it's easy to find pictures. You can create smart tags to easily find pictures too.
The interface: amazing, what a leap forward. As someone else mentioned, I think this actually has more image enhancing features than PSE9 and on the surface seem more accessible. It's very intuitive to use whereas PSE is slightly scary to the beginner.
The tool: as an amateur photographer, I have recently looked into purchasing Photoshop Lightroom which is a really nice product. Having reviewed this and the demo of Lightroom, I no longer see a need for it. This can do everything PSE can and on first impressions, as much as Lightroom. I love the tilt-shift (miniaturisation) effect and vignetting is very easy too (something that requires more effort in PSE9). It's much faster than PSE9 too (with a quad core processor, 1Gb graphics and 12Gb RAM, I can verify this). Loving the HRD module which allows you to take various exposures of the same shot and merge to achieve the best effect as well as the photo blend module.
BTW, this also comes with a Winzip Pro code so all you have to do is download the latest version. And as someone else stated it (PSP X4) refreshingly comes with an actual pick-up and use manual!
Overall: very nice product and really deserves a lot more recognition. I'd like to make the switch from PSE9 and may do so but will, at least, use this to edit pictures. I've got one of Scott Kelby's books on using Photoshop Elements to achieve various effects Photoshop Elements 8 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter) but not sure how much I'll need it now.

I installed this software onto my laptop for myself and my boyfriend to use. I found it pretty easy, being a reasonably competent user of Photoshop and being familiar with layers, photo editing and print layouts. The tools are easier to use than the X2 version which I also have and the software is packed with features at a very reasonable price. When you compare it to something like Photoshop, this product wins hands down, it's under £60 and has most of the features without a price tag of several hundred pounds. It does produce some rather large output files but that was easily sorted by creating a file and then making it into a print ready pdf which reduced the size dramatically. I was able to produce a tidy looking leaflet for professional printing, numerous photos were edited for use on websites and all look great.
What I would say is that if you haven't used a similar package before, there IS a learning curve, you should work through the various tutorials. This isn't like Microsoft Word or similar packages, it's a photo editing suite and has different tools and works in a different way. Be prepared to give yourself a few hours to work through the tutorials and learn how to use it properly. If you do that, you'll have added a very powerful tool to your toolbox and you'll be delighted with the results.
