There is almost no coverage of SourceSafe, the book is riddled with typos and errors (listing events that don't exist and leaving out ones that do!), coverage of topics that aren't even related to the 70-176 exam (granted, they may be useful, but what's the point of learning them for the exam?), the test questions are just plain wrong and for some reason there is coverage of DAO and RDO. 'MCSD In A Nutshell' by James Foxall is much more useful and comprehensive and I would reccommend that combined with MSDN instead of this woeful travesty.

At the end of each chapter there are 15 example questions which are similar to the questions asked in the exam. Some topics covered are not required for the exam, though good reading. An exam matrix at the beginning of the book highlights all relevant sections within chapters and questions relating to the exam topics covered. I found this helpful after completing the book as final preperation. Although not a great reference book, it will come in handy in the future. 7wks study with this book and some example questions from the net gave me a first time pass.

Room for Improvement 3 Dec 1999
By Matthew Burnside - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I passed this exam today. While this book was helpful and covered most every exam objective in sufficient depth, it needs some work. For God's sake, when will somebody create an MCSD book that doesn't have a glaring error in every chapter? From wrongly keyed practice tests to glaring contradictions, this book had it all. Case in point, pp.126-127 "(the controls) collection is not a true Visual Basic Collection because it does not support the full member set that a Visual Basic Collection object has. However, it does have a COUNT property, as well as ITEM, ADD, and REMOVE methods." Umm...that's what a VB collection has. The content (when it was correct) was sufficient, but the book was soured by such errors. Did I mention get the Transcenders?

To make it short and sweet--this book helped me pass the exam. Good, complete coverage of objectives. Helpful background material, too. I'm glad I bought it!

I just passed today! 25 April 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book defintely helped me pass the test. The test covered every topic on the test, including the Package and Deployment wizard and VSS, which other books tend to be weak on. It was easy to see how each topic matched the topics on the exam. Each concept is marked with a number that corresponds to a topic on the exam, so you can see which chapter in the book covers each part of the exam. There are typos, and I found a few questions that gave incorrect answers in the answer key, but overall it was the best book out of the three books I purchased(O'Reilly's came in a close second, with Coriolis Exam Prep a far distant third)
