Product Description

I will ship by EMS or SAL items in stock in Japan. It is approximately 7-14days on delivery date. You wholeheartedly support customers as satisfactory. Thank you for you seeing it.

This sonically spectacular disc features three of Aaron Copland's most beloved Americana scores. Drawing on American folk themes, Rodeo and Appalachian Spring originated as ballet music, but they have found a larger life as light classic staples. They are briskly conducted by Louis Lane and played with élan by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. --Sarah Bryan Miller

4.0 out of 5 stars Not at all bad but not the best value 17 April 2009
By Tealady2000 VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is a perfectly decent rendition of three of Aaron Copland's famous orchestral works - Fanfare for the Common Man, Rodeo and Appalachian Spring. If you only want the basics, this Telarc disc is a good choice, and the Georgia-based orchestra should certainly give an authentic Appalachian feel to the eponymous suite.

After I bought this CD, I discovered another nice recording [Copland: Vocal and Orchestral Works, also available from Amazon] which is a 2CD box set and contains many more tracks for only a little extra money, so much better value overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lane and Copland and Atlanta, what a great team! 30 Jan 2001

The performance by all is first-rate; and the sonic picture is terrific!
The interpretation of Appalachian Spring is one of my absolute favorites--I treasure it.
Atlanta sounds world-class. Worth the money, despite the short measure of the disc!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great American Fare 10 Dec 2007

And now, something distinctly American: the music of Aaron Copland. I'm proud and happy to be an American, and so was Mr. Copland, apparently. I enjoy living in the southern Appalachians. It was getting acquainted with this region of the country that I got better acquainted with his music- which has a certain vivid photographic quality to it. That is, it conveys the social and even the topographic landscape of our wonderful country with brilliant imagery in music. The strong use of brass and percussion gives us the full, broad and rich sounds that match our American landscape, while the woodwinds and strings often capture the intimate woodland settings and quiet places of our forests.

I've heard a few interpretations of App. Spring, and this is a little on the fast side, in my opinion. Still very good...

5.0 out of 5 stars Copland performed at its best 31 Dec 2005
By Michael Lin - Published on

This CD is one of my favorites in my classical collection. Several years ago, I borrowed this recording from the library, and enjoyed it so much that I went out and bought my own Copland CD. I got the CD containing the New York Philharmonic's performance of Appalachain Spring (conducted by Bernstein), but was sorely disappointed. After a few months of searching (this was pre-Amazon days), I tracked down this CD and bought it. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is superb. I highly recommend this CD for any Copland fan, or anyone who wants to have a "token" classical CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful work 26 Aug 2008

I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of this recording. I used to think that only Angel Records could produce such quality. The people who did the mixing made me feel like I was standing next to the conductor. Every solo instrument seemed to sound its best.
I also liked the interpretation. I though it was traditional and being a tone poem I had no problem closing my eyes and "seeing" the action.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Compilation 5 Oct 2009
By Mark - Published on

I've had this collection of Copland pieces, in album and cassette form, for many years. I consider it an essential part of my collection, which I listen to often. The only piece that's a little bothersome to my ear is Hoedown, which the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra played a little too fast. In copies of this CD I've made for myself and friends, I replace this version of Hoedown with one from another CD, where Copland himself is conducting...a much slower and more enjoyable version of the piece. All the other cuts on this CD are excellent interpretations of Copland, including his masterpiece, "Appalachian Spring." I highly recommend this CD to any Copland fans out there, or to anyone who wants a fine introduction to a great American composer and his work.
