A Must Have 17 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
If you are due to have - or are having chemotherapy, this is a must have book for you. I discovered it in the library after I had just finished the chemo and felt quite angry I hadn't found it before as it was so much more helpful than the hospital leaflets. I would have felt far more informed and prepared if I had read it in advance, but it was still a very useful read - so much so, I immediately bought my own copy - and they are very reasonable too!

I am glad that I bought this book as I found it very helpful. It contains enough basic information for me at this stage, without going into too much scientific detail. It is a useful addition to Macmillan's cancer support booklet 'Understanding Chemotherapy'. However, the Macmillan bookelt contains diagrams and 'Understanding Chemotherapy' does not and I found this to be a major drawback as a few diagrams would have helped a lot. For example, mitosis is described but it would have been much easier to understand it if there had been diagrams. I did biology at A level many years ago and still found the description difficult to understand.

I came across this while looking for something quick and reliable I could give my Mum before she started her chemotherapy. It's well written, comprehensive and a quick and easy read.

It was just so refreshing to find a book on the subject written by a leading oncologist, rather than a geologist, footballer or weathergirl! My Mum also found it very helpful and reassuring. It's the best book I've found on the subject, and I highly recommend it.
