Product Description

James Monroe (Bruce Willis) is a veteran NYPD cop, whose only hope of paying for his daughter’s wedding is destroyed when thieves steal his rare baseball card. Determined to get it back, he teams up with his long-time partner (Tracy Morgan), and sets out on the trail of a sinister, memorabilia-obsessed gangster. An action comedy from director Kevin Smith (Dogma, Clerks).

Bruce Willis (Die Hard) and Tracy Morgan (30 Rock) team up for the police buddy movie Cop Out in this Kevin Smith-directed production. From a script by Robb and Mark Cullen, the film focuses on a detective duo who investigate the disappearance of a baseball card.

The story centre’s around police detectives Jimmy (Willis), a no-nonsense divorced father, and Paul (Morgan), the crazy-talking loose cannon. Despite nine years as partners, the two lawmen can still sometimes seem like complete opposites, especially when Paul's unpredictable antics get them suspended without pay. Already strapped for cash and trying to pay for his daughter's wedding, Jimmy decides to sell a rare baseball card that's worth tens of thousands. Unfortunately, when the collector's shop is robbed and the card vanishes with the crook, Paul and Jimmy end up going rogue, tracking down the card and the drug ring behind its theft, all on their own time, and without any backup... except for each other.

2.0 out of 5 stars slacker thriller - or is that an oxymoron 10 Dec 2011
By tallmanbaby TOP 1000 REVIEWER
First of all I should state that my low marking is based on purchasing this DVD.

This is not a really bad film, in fact it breezes along amiably enough in its very derivative way. There are a few genuinely funny bits, pretty much all in the trailer. Oddly some funny scenes ended way too early, while some unfunny scenes just went on and on. The action sequences are well done, and some inspired location shooting and casting gives a real urban grit to the film.

Bruce Willis is pretty much Bruce Willis, I do wonder what he was thinking when he took the film on. Perhaps he has a daughter getting married, has lost a prized baseball card and the only way to raise the money to pay for the wedding was to team up with an irritating black sidekick to bring a surprisingly well written villain to justice.

The audio is not entirely audible at times, Tracy Morgan (black sidekick) speaks very quickly at times. The script is not exactly solid gold throughout, they do rather riff on, on the off chance that they might say something amusing at some stage.

Despite being 107 minutes long, it does feel like a long film, having said that, I never felt like giving up on it. Although rated here as a 15, I think an 18 would be more appropriate in view of persistent sexual banter. Most of those concerned have been in better films, but if you caught this on tv or as a rental, you would be reasonably happy with it.

Finally, if the score sounds familiar, it is because Kevin Smith persuaded Harold Faltermeyer, best know for Beverley Hills Cop to dust off his old electronic organ, for some more classic eighties sounds. Now that really is a film that you want to have on DVD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Catchy Cop Comedy 23 Oct 2010
By Mitun
'Cop Out' is a buddy-cop action-comedy feature that released in 2010 to overwhelming negative reviews by Critics. However, it was a moderate box-office success. On its Home Video release it was more successful becoming the number 1 selling DVD in the US.

The movie centres around two New York Police Officer partners (Bruce Willis & Tracy Morgan) who must trace a valuable rare baseball card, that has been stolen. The main obstacle they must overcome is the dreaded gangster, Poh Boy (Guillermo Diaz).

The movie is clichéd, has a silly plot and the jokes are not new. Right, thats the flaws and a general complaint of a lot of the viewers out the way.

I watched the film with no expectaions and treated it as a stand-alone feature without making any comparisons with classic buddy-cop movies. Also, I'm a big Bruce Willis fan but didn't expect a blockbuster Willis vehicle. All these things helped as I was taken back by how fun it was.

The film has a good pace from the start and is filled with comical situations, which at times are vulgar but generally funny. The gags are not new, however the way they've been presented makes you laugh. The screenplay is tight, making this run-of-the-mill feature into something thats better. The action sequences are exciting and the climax, although predictable is alright. Keep watching once the credits start rolling as there is a really funny scene in store.

The film had the feel of the 80's era, which I loved and on watching it time passed quickly. In the end I was happy with what I'd seen.

Bruce Willis is a treat to watch, lets just say, he acts his age in it. Saying that, he's always going to be an action hero, which he subconsciously displays in the film.

2.0 out of 5 stars Crass Vulgarity 30 May 2013
By Sam
There was a time when any movie with Bruce Willis in it was likely to be pretty much a large budget and above par production. Recently though I have come across Red, 16 Blocks and now this poor excuse of a movie; all of which suggest that Bruce is certainly not the guarantee he once was.

Cop Out (aptly named!) is banal, childish and vulgar to an extreme. Eddie Murphy got away with it in Beverley Hills Cop, as he did with Nick Nolte in 48 Hours because they were quite original, exciting and very funny. This movie tries to follow in the path of the two cop style action/comedy theme, but really does fail to deliver much more than the odd chuckle and countless cringes at the adolescent profanity that litters the film. (I really don't mind swearing in movies when it add to scenes, situations or character portrayal - Raging Bull, Scar Face etc - but here it was actually quite embarrassing).

The storyline is well covered by fellow reviewers, so needless to say much more than I really found the movie to be quite lame and unremarkable without much to set it aside from countless other, low budget cop movies.

Not necessarily one to turn off, but certainly not one to watch again or recommend, I'm afraid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Fun! 25 Feb 2013

Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This is a classic all-action film staring Bruce Willis. In this action-comedy Willis stars as an NY Cop with his partner; these two calamity cops go in search of stolen goods as they get robbed in a small store.
It is great fun with comedy mixed in with shoot-outs. A great film but, I would say it is an 18 due to common swearing and killings. I would recommend this to anyone (over 15/18)!

Plenty of smiles in the script in this one. Very good casting and the partnering with Tracy Morgan is masterly. No action is lost either. Recommended.

I did not like this movie, I thought it was boring, and not as good as his other movies, but my sister thought it was good, so you have to make up your own mind about this film.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not Willis's best
Nice balance of comedy and action, but slightly weak acting from Willis. Maybe he was not getting paid enough for his usual enthusiasm.

This is not the best Bruce Willis film out there. For Willis fans you might wait for Die Hard 4. He does not play a super-cop, but rather a mediocre cop paired with Tracy Morgan... Read more

Bruce isn't much for comedy but with a leading partner you get a good result.
