Product Description

Synopsis

The Mini Cooper is one of the most enduring symbols of the 1960s, but before his vehicles became fashionable, John Cooper had dominated Formula 1 racing and inspired many motor sport greats. Nye looks at the humble origins of the family company that became Cooper cars. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The first edition of this book was a true classic of racing history, combining Doug's impeccable research into the history of individual Coopers with a miscellany of anecdotes and stories to make an irresistible history of the marque. One of a very few racing histories that can make me laugh out loud.

A Great Read 3 April 2012
By Terry J
Format:Hardcover
If you are into old racing cars and racing history this book is an absolute delight . It charts the history of Cooper Cars in comprehensive detail while managing to be a great read . When you have finished reading this book , Charlie Cooper will be a loveable, larger than life , character you will never forget ! You will feel sympathy for everyone who worked for him , his son John , Jack Brabham , Bruce McLaren , Owen 'Whiskers' Maddock - their faithful designer ; and you'll smile wryly at Charlies views on Colin Chapman !! Pick this book up and you will not put it down until it's read - then you'll want to read it again.

A labor of love from a racing time long gone 6 July 2004
By "onebigracingfan" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Nye's Cooper Cars marries exhaustive research and scholarship of the marque with an eminently readable style. A must-have for fans of Formula One's bygone years--and an excellent introduction for race-watchers who don't believe World Champion cars could ever come from the garage down on the corner.
Good balance of interesting antidotes and encyclopedic information 21 Sep 2011
By Ben Beames - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
The amount of information in this book is massive. It could easily be called the "Encyclopedia of Cooper Cars". But it is not all dry technical and historical information. It contains many interesting quotes from famous drivers, telling stories of their more memorable experiences.

It does however leave a little to be desired in the engineering department. Little is mentioned of why different chassis designs and configurations were tried. Cooper revolutionized F1 with their rear/mid engined cars and I can't find any mention of why/how they decided to configured that way (yes I know the advantages of a mid engined car, but what led to them discovering that).
