As part of the re-launch of the Boplicity label, this month features some of the jazz recordings first issued by LA-based Modern Records on their Crown label. Each of the releases has the highest quality sound mastered from fresh transfers from first generation master-tapes. Chet Baker was the face of 1950s West Coast jazz. His sublime trumpet-playing combined with film-star good looks made him a star. His recordings for Pacific Jazz were the very apex of his career, and often considered the finest of these were the sessions that produced Chet Baker & Crew . Six years later Pacific sold this set of out-takes to Modern. Featuring saxophonist Phil Urso and pianist Bobby Timmons, these are every bit as good as the originally released versions. A mid-price digipak release.
