Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Will The Cool, the second album from Lupe Fiasco, do what his first couldn’t and make this Chicago rap prodigy a star? If the answer must be no, maybe it’s just because Lupe’s too far ahead of the competition. The Cool gets off to a bit of a bumpy start--"Go Go Gadget Flow" shows off Lupe’s quick-lips vocal talents, but it’s a bit slight content-wise, while "Superstar" reaches for the crossover card through its somewhat hammy sub-Chris Martin vocal from Matthew Santos. A little further in, though, and Lupe’s firing on all cylinders. "Dumb It Down" outdoes Pharrell at his own game, droning synths and ticking drums atop which Lupe dissects an industry built on low expectations. "Hello/Goodbye" shows the breadth of The Cool’s scope, borrowing a doom-laden hook from James Lavelle’s UNKLE project. And "Little Weapon", produced by Patrick Stump from Fall Out Boy, surprises; a pneumatic, enjoyable production that’s the bed for a narrative that sees Lupe morphed into the body of a child solider-–although a surprise pull-back at the end suggests it might be about violent computer games. Maybe it’s too fragmented to vault Lupe into the league of Kanye and Jay-Z--or maybe The Cool is simply too original and too inspired to resort to hip-hop cliché. –-Louis Pattison

CD Description

'The Cool' is the second album from American hip hop star Lupe Fiasco and is loosely based on the track of the same name from his debut album 'Food & Liquor'. The album sees Lupe shift towards a more pop orientated sound while managing to maintain his credibility by employing the production talentsof Soundtrakk, Chris & Drop and Unkle. Guest vocals and playing comes from the likes of Snoop Dogg, Matthew Santos and Queens Of The Stone Age's Josh Homme.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lupe Fiasco takes his place along side hip hops most important artists., 28 Jan 2008
Without doubt Lupe Fiasco's 'Food & Liquor'album was a prelude to one of hip hops most important and possibly influental artists since Kanye West and Common. With 'The Cool' Lupe confirms that he is head and shoulders above all competitors when it comes to lyrics and story telling. 'The Cool' is an album unlike any other, its light years ahead in fact! and in my opinion will spark a copy cat trend amoung other artists. Make no mistake about this, you need to own this album. Track after track of perfectly rounded beats and lyrical delivery shows the world that Hip hop's future is destined to be shaped by artists such as Lupe who's use of experimental concepts is the way forward. Unfortunatly for Lupe and in the case of this album 'The Cool' with not have the commerical impact that he or it deserves, Why? well much like 'Food & Liquor' this album is almost too fresh and ahead of its time for mainstream hip hop lovers to fully appreciate. My guess is that in 10 years time your Children with be downloading this album as they'll want to hear who started the new sound of hip hop. My advice to you? buy and listen to this album NOW and save yourself the ten year wait to love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh to the eardrum, 1 Feb 2008
By D. Mwiinga "Ecclesiastes" (Rdg Area, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
First listen was really tring to get a feel of the album as i was at work so didnt really appreciate the intricasy of the album's make-up. Second listen was more like trying to re-listen to what I heard initially and 3rd listen was getting a clue about the album. At each point, I was more and more drawn to the album because of the way it feels and plays and blends in together. The entire album as a whole is nothing short of a masterpiece. Its not too one way e.g its not too rocky or too hip-hop or too skate-board-ish, it is a blend of different styles, I mean he goes as far as having Snoop on one of his tracks and he also has that Santos geezer too. It reminds me of Black on both sides when it came out and also reminds me of Talib Kweli's last installment Eardrum. Eash song is fits on teh album just perfectly and the lyrical content, flow, delivery, well what can i say, this dude's got skills. This has some classics tracks on it that you will keep listening to over and over and over again, look out for 'High definition', 'superstar', paris, 'tokyo', 'hip-hop saved my life', 'intruder alert' 'little weapon' and many many more.

Lupe is way ahead of his peers and he is not too hip-hop that he gets a bit boaring and sad to listen to, he is not too experimental that he looses the plot, the album is fresh and you gotta give respect where its due.

If you like any of Lupe's tracks from Food and Liquor, then you will love this gauranteed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cool is Freshly Cool, 16 Feb 2008
By Mr. Terry D. Jarvis - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
There has been a decline in great rappers the last few years. But Lupe fiasco i say can rank up there with Nas,GZA and Common in his second album "The Cool" there are some classics here such as the obviously brilliant"Superstar" High definition with Snoop Dogg is my favorite on this album.Hip Hop Saved my life how true this album looks like it has saved Hip Hop.But you notice a mood change.According to the singles we have heard in the past Lupe Fiasco aint as clean cut as we think rapping about Shoting someone in the back and Mac 11 refenes change your outlook on him.All in all classic stuff
