No Reviews? For Shame! 13 July 2011
By Mr. J. W. Campbell - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
For Goodness Sake! I know 2000AD is a 'cult' title, operating on the fringes, but Nikolai Dante is one of the most ambitious works of comic book fiction of the last decade or so. Unlike so many comics, Morrison and Fraser went into Dante intending to tell an extended tale with a definite beginning, middle and end. A huge cast, almost none of whom can be conveniently pigeon-holed as heroes or villains, assemble over the course of this story, fall in love, fall out of love, find themselves on opposite sides of battlelines, fight, kill and betray each other in stories that are never short of compelling.

But much of that is still to come, since this book concerns the early phase of this epic story, when Nikolai was still too cool to kill and his adventures were full of science fiction swashbuckling and derring-do. That this book is such is such immense fun is only rendered more impressive by the knowledge of what is to follow.

Make no mistake, this is fine writing, coupled with brilliant artwork, in the service of one of comics' shining achievements. Buy it, then buy the rest.
