A book that would appeal equally to cooks and gardeners, and persuade one to try their hand at the other. The book is divided into fruit and vegetable types, and has growing and tasting notes for each, with a few recipes accompanying each section. Although there are fewer recipes than you might expect to find, there is so much other fascinating information, and the photography is truly beautiful and inspiring. You would perhaps be as likely to arrange some fresh tomatoes on a plate, and eat them with bread, as you would be to follow any recipe to the letter. The book also provides a reminder of the connection between what we eat, and where it comes from, and would inspire anyone with a garden to turn at least a small patch of it over to produce. About half the recipes are vegetarian, and all are easy to follow, with photographs of most of the finished dishes. There are lots of salad recipes, both hot and cold, taking it beyond the lettuce, and lots of delicious soup recipes as well. A book to peruse as well as to cook with.
