Camping for Toffs 28 Sep 2006
Format:Paperback
I bought this book to read on our camping holiday in France thinking it might hold some tips to make things a little more comfortable and indeed a little more cool. All it did was make us laugh. The authors of this book seem to live in a world where cashmere and quail's eggs are standard camping issue. Hanging a chandelere(if that's how you spell it) in your tent is highly recommended as is putting a totem pole outside your tent at a festival. You would be much better in a yurt than a dome tent, if you want to keep warm dress in cashmere, you'll enjoy camping a lot more if you eat gourmet cuisine........ you don't say! Get real.

I was a bit disappointed with this cos it's not very useful for anyone who enjoys camping. it's more for people who like sitting in their cath kidstons in the garden.

Buy the Jonathan Knight book - also called Cool Camping - instead. It's got more info, better pictures and all in all has been more useful for us on our trips away.

As a self-proclaimed boho clad yummy-mummy (well I'd like to be) - definitely more flash packer than back packer, I must say I found this book a bitter disappointment. It is, for all intents and purposes, a beautifully styled extended magazine feature - the sort of thing you might find in "Cosmopolitan" with lots of photos or pink, floral and retro-style camping accessories but very little substance. In a simillar vein - a much, much better and robust read is "The Happy Campers" by Tess Carr and Kat Heyes.
