The original tent campers bible has been expanded and fully updated for 2011 in this brand new Third Edition. Now covering 150 exceptional campsites across England including 90 new discoveries this best-selling travel guide will lead you to a whole host of special places to camp, all bought to life with entertaining reviews and colour photos. Pitch up in the spacious grounds of a Devonshire manor house, nestle down amongst meadows of wild flowers, camp next to a picturesque village church, or hide out in secret woodlands. Discover campsites with views of watercolour-green English countryside, of still, silver lakes, or big, blustery seascapes. There s the occasional yurt, tipi and ornate gyspy caravan too, but the emphasis in this book is on special places to take your own tent - for a truly unforgettable stay under the stars. With all the practical info you need, including the best campsites for kids, campfires, dogs, views, what you can expect to find on-site, things to do in the locality and the best food and drink options around, this is essential reading for contemporary campers.

About the Author

Jonathan Knight is a travel writer and photographer. He has co-authored numerous books including Lonely Planet France, The Rough Guide to Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei and The Rough Guide to Southeast Asia. A serial traveller by nature, he has camped everywhere from the peaceful Australian outback to, accidentally, the war zone of ex-Yugoslavia. Very Cool campsites 20 May 2011
Format:Paperback
I must admit I am a bit of a fan of Cool Camping anyway, I had the previous edition of Cool Camping England so wasn't sure if I needed this update (2011) but I'm pleased I did - it's a much more professional and comprehensive book all round. There are 150 campsites now (compared to 70 in the previous edition), so it's a bigger book, and the design seems more user friendly. They still have photos of all the campsites, which I like. And the quality of the recommended campsites seems to be have been maintained. I know 2 of the new campsites already, which I know to be very good, and I've now visited another of the new ones recommended (Forgewood in Kent) which is lovely, so it's good to see they're maintaining their standards. Some of the campsites that were in the previous edition are not now in the new edition - not sure why? Does that mean they have gone downhill? The geographical coverage seems pretty good, although there is a skew towards campsites in Devon and Cornwall and the Lake District, I guess down to the quality of the campsites in those areas. Overall, a good, comprehensive update.

My Review 4 Sep 2011
Format:Paperback
Upon initial inspection the book is very aesthetically pleasing with a wide range of quality camping options for all. However it is only once you begin to read the book that you realise the expertise and time that has gone into creating this book.

I bought it for a birthday present for a new camping enthusiast. The response has been very good.

Good present
