Cool Camping: France, 10 April 2008
This review is from: Cool Camping: France (Cool Camping) (Paperback)
I love this book!
It's full of variety, from staying in tipis in central france, to lush open spaces where you can pitch your tent by the sea. There are loads of gorgeous photos that make you want to be outside, and the reviews are personal and funny which is a refreshing change from the soulless camping / carvanning guides out there. There's also extra practical info like 'food and drink' recommendations and options of other places to stay 'if it's full', really handy if you've not done much research before heading off.
Would definitely recommend this book to anyone. I was a hotel comforts girl, but now I'm a camping convert, and off to France this summer!

Good balance between being a reference and being readable, 4 Sep 2008
This review is from: Cool Camping: France (Cool Camping) (Paperback)
As other reviewers said, the photos in the book provide great eye-candy, and certainly inspire one to head out into nature again.
Well, we did, and visited a number of campsites around the Burgundy region of France, using this book as a guide. The information in the book is accurate - the telephone numbers actually work, costs are in line, and descriptions of the places are realistic. Furthermore, the places are indeed well-located with attractive features that distinguish them from the idea of merely an open space in the middle of nowhere.
There are however two small problems with the book.
First, I feel there is an insufficient number of campsites listed. For example, Burgundy (a large region) is only covered with three choices. all three were great, but two or three more would have been fantastic. The choice of site is not standalone - it also depends on the cities or attractions one plans to visit. For us, having to drive 1 to 2 hours to vistit Dijon or Beaune was a bit far.
Second, the description of the physical location should be better. It's not really good enough to give the name of a village, when the camping site is in fact 15 minutes drive away along a mess of winding country roads. Of course, now that we know this, we'll know to research the locations well using websites and online maps.
Overall, great book - much better than a dry reference book of a gazillion camping sites that leaves you wondering which to choose.

Fantastic Campsites, 25 Jun 2009
This review is from: Cool Camping: France (Cool Camping) (Paperback)
We recently went roadtripping through France and used this book to find a place to pitch our tents at night. The suggestions in the book was brilliant, all the sites we visited were fantastic !! Also, the writers always give an alternative if the mentioned site is full. Note that this book does not cover ever campsite in France, instead this is a book full of hand picked great sites spread accross France. Make sure you have a roadfinder, the sites in the book are the hidden jewels, thus even thou there are directions in the book a roadfinder (or GPS) is essensial.
Great pictures, great sites, great book !!
