Not impressed 15 July 2010
By Pat D. Langille - Published on Amazon.com

I was hoping for a reliable source of recipes for cooking well for osteoporosis, but this is a pretty sloppy attempt. I had only been looking at the book for 5 minutes when I came across recipes that were completely useless. For example: Granola with Raisins and Dates has "granola" as an ingredient. Are you kidding me? There must be hundreds of choices for granola, never mind the home made recipes. How on earth can you give nutritional information for a recipe that contains "granola" if you don't know what kind? Another example: Oatmeal with Kiwi and Banana says you need 1/2 cup oatmeal. What kind of oatmeal? Instant, quick cooking, rolled, whole, steel cut? And yet they say there's 10g fiber in this recipe. Believe me, the amount of fiber in instant oatmeal is far less than in steel cut.

I give the book a 3 because not all the recipes are so lacking in rigor, but as you read these recipes, do ask yourself if the ingredients raise questions in your mind. If they do, take the nutritional analysis with, shall we say, a grain of salt.

Got this book for my boyfriend's mother when we found out she was in the initial stages of bone loss. Great resource.
