A fantastic traditional cook book with just about everything you need to know. A bit dated in format but i wouldn't want to be without it.

I have my Mother's book. It's been VERY well used over the years. I also have a later edition (1978 ish). I Wouldn't be without either of them.

I have been using this book since 1970. It replaced my previous version that I bought in 1958. It is equally good for a beginner or an experienced cook. It gives all the basics and gives various versions of the cake recipes etc.

The only problems for younger cooks are that all weights are in pounds and ounces and temperatures are in Fahrenheit. However there is a temperature conversion chart at the back

The layout is excellent and easy to follow: unless you have a copy like mine which is so old and dilapidated that I have to keep all the loose pages in an envelope and ferret through them to find what I need.

This book was given me by an aunt when I first got interested in cooking when I was in junior school. Have used it on and of for over 55 years, it's very well worn now but still comes out from time to time.
